Release date - November 5, 2013
Genre - FPS

-Single Player-

The single player campaign on ghosts is good but not as good as it could of been. It was the same cookie cutter routine I was used to, and it was the same routine I avoided even beginning last year. Call of Duty Ghosts offers little to reinvigorate the campaign side of the game, instead relying on graphical awe. On the positive side of things, it does achieve this well. Each mission feels just as every fan and hater describes it; a Michael Bay film. Things are exploding left and right, with bullets flying past you at every turn. The few missions that stray from this style were the more memorable and enjoyable ones, especially those that used stealth mechanics. Call of Duty really needs to look to its one off experiences as something a bit more enjoyable in larger quantities.

The environments provided by Ghosts were better then any other Call of Duty I have played. You will move between running around the streets of South America, to orbiting at a Satellite Station, back down to some underwater combat (unfortunately lacking Bond style spear guns). This really helps make the experience feel fresh each mission, but does lose its effect if you play through the campaign in one big hit (like myself). Furthermore, as an experienced COD player, I found the adventurous missions often had me frustrated due to sloppy engine physics. Especially in the underwater mission, where I found myself sliding strangely around, and bumping off NPCs that would propel me towards the surface. This was extremely irritating on Veteran mode, as lacking the twitch style movement meant more often than not I was stuck in a bad spot, with little ability to move to cover. Perhaps some scripted movement here may have made it more bearable, as I found these missions became more frustrating than enjoyable due to the sloppy combat.

Overall the storyline was better told than most. From beginning to end I knew what my goal was going to be, and of course it turned into a man hunt like all Call of Duty's have to, but I felt like I was doing it for more than the Modern Warfare reason of they're bad; get them. The game play itself made me lose any immersion in the storyline, as it simply didn't seem plausible in the current situation. Spoilers ahead, but where the hell did we pull a Carrier from? And why didn't we use this to our advantage earlier? The last few missions, with their ample supply of tanks, jets, helicopters and Aircraft Carriers, had me questioning the purpose of my lets sneak around enemy lines on foot mentality.

By the end of the campaign I was satisfied. I did enjoy the time I spent there, and even went through a second time on Veteran to see how difficult it was. I dint know if its because Ive been playing older Call of Duty Veteran Campaigns on PC, or because the game was made a certain way, but Veteran was far less challenging than I expected. My second play through was actually quicker than my first, granted I knew where to head, what button to press in the godforsaken quick time events, and where the enemies would flood out from, but it still didn't make sense in my head.

-Multiplayer-

Multiplayer is the life and blood of the Call of Duty series. It is without a doubt one of the best modern military twitch shooters, and is enjoyed by millions every year. This iteration is no different, with Ghosts changing very little in the proven formula, and being enjoyable just the same. I wont talk much on multiplayer, as its really just the changes that interest people. To put it simply, the game is fast paced, there is plenty of customisation and progression, and there is some really horrible maps (and some good ones!).

Ill actually start with the maps. Treyarch have this funny idea in their heads that Call of Duty maps are just flat boards with blocks on them. Some of these blocks may be a slightly propped sniper perch, others may just be a broken down car with an invisible wall around it preventing you from climbing it. One of my biggest complaints about Call of Duty maps, especially Treyarch ones, is the use of scenery as simply scenery, and not as obstacles that can be mantled, climbed, jumped on and T-bagged. Ghosts has done a far better job at this than I expected. There are still the map boundaries that look-climbable-but-arent problems, but most of the maps objects are all climbable, which is great! My best example is Stonehaven. This map is a broken castle, which has ruined walls and rubble littered all around it. The majority of this is completely climbable, which leads to some great flanking routes. This kind of design makes the maps feel more like the actual environments they are set in, and less like disguised flat boxes. Ghosts also succeeds in making the maps far less linear, and much more vertical. This is daunting to get used to at first, but like most multiplayer games, learning the maps is an important part of learning the game, and I found myself knowing the vantage points and how to get to them quite quickly.

The new perk system, while extremely confusing, leads for a lot of customisation. Instead of working off a point system for the entire class, your spare points from sacrificing equipment and weapons are used for only your perks. There are more perks in Ghosts than in any other Call of Duty to date, and some of the new ones are extremely interesting (such as the reloading while sprinting perk). Old favourites like Marathon make a full comeback (much to my own delight), along with several other playstyle orientated perk. So if you like to run and gun like myself, you'll love the new perk system. Unfortunately no Stinger missile is in this COD, which has become iconic in most CODs, and is a staple in the counter-killstreak weaponry. This makes taking down air based killstreaks a fair bit more difficult.

To sum it up, Ghosts multiplayer is a blast to play, and has plenty of progression elements to hook you in. The new engine adds more to the movability of your character, along with the improved map design. The only negatives I can provide are related to small things like the scoreboard being made worse. You cant even see your connection quality any more really? It seems as if Infinity Ward is taunting you. You're not lagging ,you're just bad at the game. Its also a shame that Theatre Mode does not make a return, but I'm assuming its due to performance restraints, along with partnership to Microsoft, and being a launch title on the Next-Gen consoles, which both have built in DVRs.

-Graphics-

Since the game is on the next gen consoles, i expected more from the graphics on the PS4 you have a nice 1080p game but the colors seem dull but on the Xbox One you have it at 720p but the colors alot more sharp and vibrant dint believe me check out a youtube video comparing them both

-RATING AND OPINION-

Single Player - 6/10
Storyline 6/10
Multiplayer 9/10
Graphics 8/10

Overall 8/10

This game is fun but the Single player is a let down compared to previous cod's but the improved multiplayer engine is great fun.

NOTES: Most of the information I put into this post was found through personal experience throughout the game, and on the developer site. Not going to review extinction mode as i despise it to much.

Synopsis

Todd Snap, a Pokmon photographer, is summoned by Professor Oak to an unusual island to help him with a report. Oak needs quality pictures to accompany his scientific findings, and knows from past experience that Todd is the right person for the job. Pokmon Island, which contains a variety of climatic and geographic regions, is a place where Pokmon live relatively undisturbed by humans. Using a motorized, amphibious buggy named the Zero-One, Todd explores the island and takes photographs of the wide variety of Pokmon that inhabit its environments. From Professor Oak's research hub, the player can select between the game's levels and features using a menu system. The path through the levels is linear, similar to a rail shooter. Up to 60 pictures can be taken per visit to a course. After completing a course, the player selects their best picture of each Pokmon to be rated by Professor Oak and added to the Pokmon Report. Scoring takes into account various aspects of the pictures, such as the Pokmon's size, its pose, and keeping the Pokmon in frame. Extra points are awarded for capturing a "special" pose or Pokmon, such as a surfing Pikachu, and if there are multiples of the same Pokmon within the frame. Scoring well in the Pokmon Report and photographing a wide variety of Pokmon is required to make progress in the game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gameplay

Pokemon Snap features 7 levels, Beach, Tunnel, Volcano, River, Cave, Valley, and the special course "Rainbow Cloud". But Professor Oak makes sure the player re-explores to discover even newer materials. All levels must be played to find hidden Pokemon, different routes and more photographic opportunity's. It can also benefit the player by earning new items. These items are used to capture better photographs, for more points. Every player starts out with just a camera, then starts gaining Pokemon Food in a shape of an Apple. It is thrown at a Pokemon to attract it or stun it. As the character progresses they unlock new items, the next item is called "Pester Ball" which is able to knock the Pokemon out or flush them out of hiding for better photographs. There is also a "Poke-Flute" which is used in many different ways, such as awakening, irritating or hatching a Pokemon. If the Pokemon is happy, it can cause it to dance. It can play 3 different songs, for certain Pokemon. The final item is the "Dash Engine" which allows players to move faster than usually, the game also features a "Album Mark" where he character can mark there favourite photos, which they can show to friends.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Graphics

The graphics in Pokemon Snap are decent for the year it came out in, 1999. Certain Pokemon look real and some look quite sketchy, but overall a good look on the Nintendo 64, Wii also had good graphics, but I did personally not see any difference form the N64, which is really disappointing, it should of at least been a upgrade, it looked more like a down-grade. The items you could unlock also looked pretty good, I personally like the apples, when you throw them they look more realistic.

Graphics: 4/10

Platforms: PlayStation 4 (PS4)
Genre: Platform, beat em up
Players: 1-2 Players
Rating: 12

Synopsis (Areas taken from Wikipedia)

Knack is a third person platformed, beat em up style video game developed by SCE Japan Studio. It is the very first of the Knack series however it has not be announced that there will be another. The game is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and was released on November 29, 2013 with the release of the next generation console (PS4). During the game, Knack discovers that he has a skill developed by his creator, the Doctor, Knack can incorporate ice, metal and other mediums into his body, giving him new abilities each level. The game has been described by Mark Cerny (Game Director). To promote the launch of the game, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Japan Studio released a free mobile game called Knacks Quest on November 6th 2013. The game received very mild reviews from most gaming communities such as a 5.9/10 from IGN and a 4/10 from Eurogamer however Game Informer gave a more positive rating of 8.25/10.

Plot

The campaign begins with an opening cutscene a Human Fort being infiltrated by a Goblin Colony, the cutscene then ends and you see a sequence of different cutscenes showing an alliance of people forming together to investigate how the Goblin colony came to be in possession of modern combat weaponry. The Goblin colony is run by evil mastermind Gundahar, who you will not be introduced kindly to about half way through the story. A human doctor, who studied ancient relics from a long lost civilisation for many years, finally found a way to bind them together and give them consciousness. The result was Knack, a creature with mysterious powers. About a quarter of the way through the story you learn about how the doctor came to find all of the relics and begin his research upon creating Knack. Helping you through the long dragged out quest that you have been given by The Doctor is supposedly kind Viktor, who is a corrupt multimillionaire who has created robot weaponry. I will not explain the story because it will have a lot of spoilers but I will note that there is a lot of irrelevant plot twists which are nonsense, you will become to realise this near the end of the game. Throughout the game you pick up various items and when you do so you get a pleasant sound from your DualShock 4 controller which is a nice effect. Here are the flaws, and there are a lot. The first thing I noticed when I played it, was when you died in one punch from a Goblin ten times your size was how far back the checkpoints were, and however many Goblins you killed on the way you had to do it all over again then to find out that you die again, and the most infuriating part is when you use your special ability, then die it DOES NOT regenerate so you will have to farm again. The next flaw is there is not enough relics! Just when you start to get big and find the game fun because you are King Kong it is the end of the level, and you are back to the size of a pea. Although they seemed to be the most annoying flaws, I can now talk about the fighting, it is boring, repetitive, and unfair..most of the time. Each level is the same thing over and over just in a different scenario and it is all because of Charlotte, The Doctors ex-deceased wife, I will not go into more detail about this because it will spoil the story.

Gameplay

Upon starting Knack, I was very indecisive on whether I enjoyed, but as I got further through the story I felt I needed to finish it, even though there is a very repetitive feel to the game, there is a certain feel to finish the game and get to the end of the story, and as far as the gameplay of Knack goes it is perfect, everything is in the correct order if not a little bit slow sometimes, the boss battles can be infuriating because of the disadvantage you have over their moves compared to yours, never the less you will win the boss battle eventually and feel like you have achieved something. Nearing the end of the game was probably the best part other than the last boss battle where it is most likely that you will have to look up a walkthrough to complete it because of how complicated it may be. I felt that the trophies you achieved throughout the game were worth it, because of the difficulty you will face, Note that I played the game on normal difficulty and found struggled, although you struggle there is a lot to consider, relics, parts for upgrades. The upgrades you find on the first play through will be used maybe in the second or third campaign you do, I thought this was annoying because I wanted to upgrade Knack without playing the campaign again. Overall the gameplay of Knack was smooth, repetitive if not intriguing, So as you continue to get annoyed with the battles you will feel that you want to finish the game.

Graphics

Best part of the game. The graphics of Knack were crme dela crme as far as a cartoon based game goes, I found that there was no screen lag or frame rate drop. Because I was playing on the next generation console and I got the game on release day you would expect there to be some minor faults, glitches or even some crashes but I had absolutely no problem with the game in terms of technical faults. The game itself ran very smoothly even when there was ten thousand particles on the screen, you still got very smooth and impressively gameplay. Although sometimes I noticed that when you were jumping up onto ledges, you would miss them and almost be pushed back like there was an invisible wall, however this didnt effect gameplay at all and I noticed it because I am very fussy, needless to say you wont have a problem and it will not ruin your game. Considering all of the different areas and levels werent complex they managed to create a great deal of detail on every level. When you started to get larger and the more particles are seen on the screen, even with all of the fighting and different Goblin weaponry you will get absolutely no screen lag. As far as the Graphics on this game are concerned they are perfect.

Controls

This section will be very short because there are only 4 controls to the game. As soon as you start the game you will immediately get the hang of the controls because all you need to do is move (L3) then once you confront a Goblin or Enemy attack(O) and if you want to be really fancy and use the special ability, you simply have to press (O) Circle and then a combination for example; Circle then Triangle it will do a separate special ability to Circle Square. So the controls are very basic and easy to use making the game simple.

Rating: 6/10

My rating is based on the PlayStations ability to be able to play the game with so much on the screen at once, and it has a few nice things about it. It is simple and not so annoying apposed to a Call of Duty game or Battlefield game, it is a family game which you can play with two people and enjoy. Although the game will make you rage an awful lot, it is still interesting to follow the story and finish it just to find out what happens. As far as the actual gameplay goes it is pretty boring because it can be/or is very repetitive and will become extremely boring when you have to start so far back from the checkpoint. In summary I would personally only recommend this game if it comes with your PlayStation 4 bundle, or you would like a simple game thats different. I know this was a short review, but because the game is so simple and short, there is also no multiplayer.

Duke Nukem: Time To Kill

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Developer: n-Space
Publisher: (US) GT Interactive Software; (EU) Take Two Interactive
Series: Duke Nukem
Platform: Play Station
Release Date: (US) September 30, 1998; (EU) February 15, 1999
Genre: Third-person Shooter
Modes: Single-player, Multiplayer

Synopsis

Duke Nukem takes on a third-person perspective in DUKE NUKEM: Time to Kill. Time-traveling aliens threaten Earth's future, and Duke must travel through time to ancient Rome, the Wild West, and a futuristic Space Age to stop them. One there, he must run, jump, climb, swim, and shoot his way to finding the colored crystals that are the key to defeating the aliens. Before finding the crystals, use pipe bombs, gatling guns, and shotguns to put the bad guys out of commission.

Gameplay/Controls

The gameplay and controls are very similar to those of Tomb Raider, a fact humorously referenced throughout the game. For being a game from the original 'Play station' the controls are fairly simple. Keep in mind that the PS1 controllers didn't have analog sticks like the PS2. So all the controls are
D-Pad move forward, backward, left, and right
Triangle Button tap to quickly turn around -- hold longer to crouch/stand up
Circle Button draw/holster weapon
Square Button jump/thrust/swim
X Button fire current weapon/action if no weapon drawn
L1 Button hold to walk
L2 Button strafe left
R1 Button look/precision aiming mode
R2 Button strafe right
Start Button start game/pause
Select Button weapons/inventory
Aside from Tomb Raider, the game references The Evil Dead, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Back to the Future series and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
The game also features a 2-Player Deathmatch option, where 2 players can battle against each other in environments loosely based on the single-player stages referring to the different time periods. The multiplayer stages can also be accessed in the single-player game by finding stopwatches or 'Surprises.' If these hidden items are found, the player is given an opportunity to take on a horde of enemies in the multiplayer stages using an upgraded version of the current weapon used, with the prize for completion being to keep the upgrade for the remainder of the game.

Graphics

The game was first released in 1998 so the graphics aren't HD. The graphics are really weak (*much* weaker than the reviews led me to believe. I remember sitting in the kitchen playing this game the smallest T.V. you could imagine!

Rating

Gameplay: 8/10
Story: 9/10
Graphics: 6/10
Controls: 9/10

I loved this game. I played this everyday of my childhood. I can still remember 2 two of the cheats from it! This game was truly amazing.

Story

Halo: Spartan Assault is a third person science fiction game witch takes place between Halo 3(2553) through Halo 4 (2557). Following the story line of Halo 3 where a ceasefire was signed between the Covenant and the UNSC. It gives better background information between the Infantry and Covenant Conflict. This game includes early Spartan ops missions against the Covenant alien species. You can play in either character Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis as they fight on Draethus V and its forerunner constructed moon. There are in total 30 missions witch are in sets of 6 each mission on average takes me roughly seven minutes. Witch the average would be five through twelve for most. Making this a rather short Story however this story does not include master Chief making it a rather different gameplay but still rather enjoyable.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Halo Spartan Assault is different from other Halo games but It still feels very much like a Halo game. The camera is like they took the first person view and made it an overhead view. While the sounds and graphics are highly recognizable as in other Halo games. Audio quality is astonishing and highly enjoyed. While visual are exceptionally upgraded and plays just like any Halo game.

Controls

Tablet/mobile: The controls on tablets and mobile devices are highly unlikeable and very unpleasing making this game very difficult and hard to play.

Xbox one: The controls on Xbox are astonishing and run smoothly and enjoyably playable. This game really uses the next generation controller well. The controls are easily learned and can be learned by anyone.

Graphics

The graphics on this game for Xbox one is exceptionally good really putting the Xbox one to good use. These games as well as many other are some of the thirty first games on the Xbox one. Giving us previews of the graphics to come. While there are minor tweaks that could be improved with some gameplay bugs some of which includes graphics.

Conclusion

Xbox one users should definitely try this game out being a cheap and fun game. However if someone is not a fan of this genre they should wait for the release of the new Halo game.

Story

While there is no direct story line there are three modes. Campaign, Free mode and challenge mode.

Campaign mode: Campaign is a roughly fifteen hour story performing different tasks to move on and make your zoo bigger where you will have to unlock exclusive animals and make certain zoo requirements. There is status bars for everything including bathrooms making it incredibly realistic. There are endless things to research and as you level up there is even more to unlock! Simple tasks come vary from adopting a sick animal to doing a magazine covers.

Challenge mode: You will be building your own zoo from the ground up. In challenge mode you will be given different timed objectives. Short objectives that are hard to do and something to do after you finish campaign. These objectives are fun side missions witch are quick and fun to do.

Free mode: Free mode is an infinite money source game mode. Built a zoo with all the resources while this game mode is less challenging and more relaxed it's fun to build a awesome zoo and show it off to friends!

Gameplay

The gameplay in zoo tycoon is very different and new to the Xbox. it is a very free roaming game witch includes first person perspective.

Free roam : In free roam mode you have a overhead view allowing you to build plazas, exhibits, And pretty much anything you would find in a zoo. While you feel as you really own a zoo. Making it your own and seeing how much hard work it is. It's astonishing the capabilities this gives you opportunities to hire staff and stock animals and go from place to place easily.

First person mode: This is truly astonishing being able to really connect with the animals ,really makes you feel like you are actually at a zoo with the real life graphics to the fantastic sound details. Making you being able to connect with your animals via kinect you would believe they were real! there are a total of 101 animals on the xbox one and are exceptionally great

Graphics

The graphics on Zoo tycoon really put the Xbox one to good use! The animals are incredibly detailed and the sounds are simply amazing! This game really gave me a good since of how good Xbox One graphics could be making the animals look as realistic as can be and even including detail on the different exhibits! Something you would have to see to believe!

Controls

Zoo tycoon has basic controls witch are easy to learn, the controller might be harder for some to learn but with the Zoo Tycoon Tutorial the controller will be learned in no time! While controls for PC might be a little harder to use for the Xbox one there simple and on point!
