Synopsis

BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter video game and the third installment in the BioShock series. Previously known as "Project Icarus", it was developed by Irrational Games and was released worldwide on the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms on March 26, 2013. BioShock Infinite is not part of the storyline of previous BioShock games but features similar gameplay concepts and themes.

Setting

The game sets place in 1912 during the extreme growth of America. You spend your time in a flying city above the clouds called 'Columbia' in other words a utopia, the perfect world to be in. There is no limit to the amount of things you can experience in the city, every NPC has there own dialect towards you and everyone has a lot to say. The sights to see are stunning and are very imaginative and the design of the game is brilliant with so much to see and endless themes not too mention how colourful the game is, making this a fine competitor the greatest game of the year.

Setting Rating:10/10

Gameplay

I don't even know where to start with the gameplay, they have jam-packed so much creative geniusness into it that the game was an absolute delight to play. Lets start with your companion, Elizabeth. Elizabeth follows you around the game as your companion as you try to escape Columbia, unlike other AI's she can protect herself as she is extremely powerful as well as helping you in battle by collecting ammo and health for you. Also she can always find something to do if you're not playing. For example, when you're at the beach there are many activities she does of her own choosing such as dancing/skipping stones even just looking at people of interest without you actually telling her too like she has a mind of her own, this should revolutionise AI's in future games and was a brilliant idea showing how far gaming has progressed. The actual weaponry was brilliant with a variety of weapons to be used at your will although you can only carry 2 at a time, making the game challenging which was a good feature. The 'Sky-Hook' was actually brilliant, its a hook you have on your hand that can attach to 'Sky-Lines' which are Metal lines of transportation that are around Columbia that you can latch onto to escape or to get places quicker or to even execute enemies from a distance. The hook can also be used in combat as a melee attack and has many execution styles, showing the creativeness of Bioshock by showing some very gruesome finishers, this was by far my favourite feature. What also made the gameplay fun was the use of 'Vigors', Vigors were these special powers you could use against enemies including the power to possess enemies, shock them and even launch them into the air to mix it up from all the gun play to increase the amount of enjoyment in your gaming experience. To add to the experience there is also 'Gear' these are special abilities you can use (But only 4 at a time). These can give extra health/burn nearby enemies ect. There are also over 130 collectibles in the game for the 100%-ers to pick up either giving you dialogue or a scene to watch. Overall it will be one of the best games you will ever play as it was for me.

Gameplay Rating:10/10

Graphics

The graphics were by far some of the best i have ever seen in a game, the execution to fine detail was brilliant and it's all shown when you are first exposed to 'Columbia' the beautiful bright city with the sight going on into the distance with everything looking perfect, even random rooms that serve no purpose to the game can be outlined with fine detail, like bars full of nothing of interest looking like your average bar with wall paintings and stains on tables and chairs. This detail was phenomenal.

Controls

The controls were decent, nothing really out of the ordinary besides using the right stick for aiming and the left trigger for 'Vigors'. Pretty easy controls altogether that you can get used to pretty quickly.

Controls Rating:9/10

Overall

In conclusion Bioshock Infinite is a game that will leave you on the edge of your seat with it's amazing graphics, brilliant gameplay and a story that will leave you entirely satisfied. A must have for any gamer!

Overall Rating:9.5/10

I'd agree with this, if the story wasn't so "WTF IS HAPPENING" as i posted on Forums/t=5101944/bioshock-infinite.html

It's way to hard to follow. i'd still give it a 9/10 though.

I only read part of the review as I do not want to ruin the plot for myself, but the other games in this series are amazing, so I'm sure this game will be as well

I thought the ending was a total WTF moment! I would spoil it, but that would be selfish. Other than that, nice review!
