Every review I've read and every impression I've heard has indicated that these have fantastic and emphasized bass. If you're after fart cannons that belch bass and nothing else, I can't recommend anything for you. I recommend good headphones here, not trash. The AKG K81 is another option, but if the Downtown does not satisfy, you may as well just go all out for the Sony XB500.

Budget: 20-45

Music preferences: metal, rock, punk, alt rock

Type/form-factor: in-ear, I want good portability for running, cycling and on the bus.

Open or closed: whichever is best

Listening from: itouch 4g and desktop sometimes

Details: i just want some good portable, affordable sound

The Xeport 3010, Soundmagic E30 and E10, and Dunu DN-12 are all worth considering.

The Uptowns are already pretty bassy...I like them a good bit for a V-shaped sound sig. If they don't have enough bass, the Sony XB500 is probably the route to go.

If you really want open, the Beyerdynamic DT990 is the only option. Otherwise, there's the Beyerdynamic DT770 or Ultrasone HFI780.

Since the Beyerdynamic Custom One went up in price from $150 to over $180, I'd go with the Shure SRH840 or Jaycar Pro Monitors (Yoga CD-880, Fischer FA-003, Brainwavz HM5, etc. are all the same OEM headphone). It sounds the the SRH840 is pretty ideal for you.
