Pretty much, yes. Looks are subjective, though, which makes Beats still more ridiculous.

If you really want to spend such a large amount of money, you'll need an amplifier, which complicates things a bit. Also, if you're spending big money, headphones tend to become less focused on bass and more focused on keeping things even and well balanced, which is a good thing unless you're just after earth-shattering bass, which people who spend that kind of money on real headphones are not.

If you're looking for a much better alternative to Beats, I'd suggest you save a bit of money and go with the Ultrasone DJ1 Pro. Great bass, but not ridiculous and overpowering. This is the way it should be. They destroy Beats for much less.

If you want the bass to be the main focus, then the Sony XB1000s are something to look at. They can be really expensive depending on where you get them, but see if you can get a decent price. This is because they are exclusively imported from Japan and therefore in short supply. The XB700s are always a good option, too.

Tell me if you want to go all out hi-fi, but sacrifice portability and simplicity. Since the type of music you prefer tends to be low-bitrate, I'd stick with something less.

I think about it a lot, but I'm not sure how or whether it's worth it. It takes quite some time doing these, and time is something I have to manage carefully. I'd probably like it to be a sticky, though.

Have you ever heard nice headphones?

Clearly not.

Therefore, you have no grounds on which to offer your opinion.

I think you would be pleasantly surprised by nice headphones or hi-fi gear. It is a means with which you experience art. Music is beautiful, and I pity you for not experiencing it.

Hey man. Well obviously I am looking for a new pair of headphones

Your budget: The sky is the limit. I had beats and they were alright. Broke pretty fast though I'm looking for the best.

Which genres you'll be listening to: I'm all around. Hip-Hop, Rock, Rap, Alternative, you name it. I would like good bass though.

What kind you want (over-ear, on-ear, in-ear, no preference, etc.) and whether you want portability: I had the Tours in-ear and I did like them. I really want in-ear as over ears are either too big or fit awkwardly.

Whether you want open or closed headphones:
This really doesn't matter.

What you are listening from: 90% of the time, my iPhone. The other 10 would be from my laptop.

Thanks for taking the time.

Can't see how this topic is in anyway stupid. r00t_b33r clearly knows what he's talking about. He insists in not overpaying for terrible headphones. So in the long run he's giving the user a much more enjoyable experience for his money. You'd be surprised the sound quality when comparing some junk headphones with no sound card, vs a high quality pair with a nice sound card, such as this [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . That's just an example, but you know what I mean.

r00t_b33r, awesome thread.
