I finally got a proper permanent position while studying at uni!

I'm now an official care assistant for the elderly, frail and dementia residents at a private care home.

8am-8pm 4 days a week @ £8.52 per hour which is not bad at all for my first ever job

Bringing home about 1.4K a month after the taxman takes a chunk with no bills or rent to pay is a dream come true (for a 21 year old)

Then to top that off student loan kicks in on the 5th of September bringing in an extra 500 pm

Time to start saving and gifting

If you guys have any idea what I should do with my first wage, post down below, they always say you should blow your first ever wage in whatever way you like then save up after that

Keep saving your money man, don't feel like you have to spend it just because it's there.

On the other hand go have a night out and enjoy yourself.

Save your money, coming from an ex serviceman who went onto uni thinking splashing money was fun when now I'm renting my house I wish I'd saved for a mortgage because I've got a little boy on the way. PLEASE save it. Save yourself a lot of hassle and worries

My suggestion is treating yourself to a day/night out. Go shopping, go bring yourself out to eat, get a haircut, etc.

Congrats man it's a hard job to keep on top off but it's well worth it, work a a nursing home myself and with the same kinda people except we also deal with brain injury residents! But as for your first wage treat yourself to a few new games or something or a night that out / food etc

Congrats on the job! I wouldn't be so tight with your money that you don't "enjoy the fruits of your labor", but you definitely want to set back a certain amount each pay period. Set yourself up a savings account or just put it back in a jar if you prefer. So if you or someone else ever falls on hard times you'll have the money to help. That's just my two cents.
