All,

Forgive me that this post probably comes off dumb because I know very little about pc gaming.

I have a 2018 MacBook pro that I use to play fortnite on. The game runs fine on low settings but obviously I don't want to play on low settings

I was looking into external graphics units (cards?) because I do not believe you can replace the graphics card within the MacBook pros. I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations? I'm not even quite sure what I'm looking for because gaming box/external graphics card/ eGPU all return different search results...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Ollie

Above I linked a list of external GPU enclosures at different price points and different specifications. You can look through the list and find one that fits your budget. I am not super familiar with eGPUs but, I don't think most if any come with a GPU so that is something you are going to have to add to your budget as well. And, as long as the card fits in the enclosure it should work with it.

Another thing that I found if you don't care about looks that can save you a lot of money is just a PCI-E adapter. It does the same thing that the external GPU cases do, but at the cost of attractiveness.

It should be noted that Apple does not support Nvidia card and you will need to buy a Radeon series card. The prices for the chassis are expensive as all, but luckily prices are falling for the cards themselves. Apple has a page on supported cards and external chassis here.

I recommend getting an one of the recommended chassis and an RX 580 or similar.
