The train derailed approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Seattle. This is the first day of the new route for the train from Seattle to Portland. Officials say at least six people are dead and 77 injured, of 78 passengers and five crew members on board.


  • Happened around 7:40 a.m
  • Reported: moving at 81.1 mph
  • 78 passengers and 5 crew members on board
  • Tacoma Portland high-speed service launched today
  • Several cars on Interstate 5 struck by derailed cars
  • At least 6 reported dead

Right nearby my hometown. Traffic has been causing accidents all over since this, and my friend almost was on the amtrak.

First day of the route and it has this terrible accident, there are obviously some things they need to secure more on this new route if they don't want people to be scared of riding the Amtrak. I hope there are no more deaths due to injury.

I was reading on how fast the train was going and I'm like why. 80 in a 50 I think it was.

Crazy, i mean who drive a car @ 80mph around a bend? Let alone 5-7 more cars behind it!

So unsafe, if the driver made it, action needs to be taken.
