basically I saw something fly across the sky away up where the stars where it would flash evey 5 seconds. this wasn't a plane as it was too far up and the light basically matched the stars light, and the fact it was way to fast to be a plane

Here's my explanation:

You saw the International Space Station, or another satellite.
It looks like a star in the sky.
The flashing could be you mistaking it for being behind thin cloud to no cloud, back to thin cloud, back to no cloud, and so on which would be difficult for you to see during the night.
This would dim the light momentarily and then allow it to shine through to you again.

The idea that it was too high or too fast to be a plane is silly.
Planes travel extremely high and there are planes which can break the sound barrier and be out of your field of vision within seconds.
Fighter jets do this in front of crowds of people.
One second they can't see it, the next it's creating a sonic boom right in front of their faces, and then the next it's gone again.

You can confirm if it was a satellite or not quite easily though.
Simply go onto a satellite tracking website, input your location and the time you saw it and it'll show you if there was a satellite travelling over that area at that time.

It's quite interesting really, but that's only if you care about finding out the truth.
It's much more fun to believe little green men were collecting data on you.

Library wrote A satellite? A shooting star? An alien spaceship gathering information about our race so that they can soon take control of our planet to consume the riches of the land and sea?

The latter. Has to be aliens. I mean, come on right?? What else are those lights in the sky that only appear at night!?!
