Iion wrote It should be considered spam with my opinion because people post that because they want to get they post up. Also, with the "Welcome to TTG" post, if you full a whole page welcoming people in like 10 minutes you are spamming just to get your numbers up. Personally it is so annoying seeing people post useless stuff just to get their post numbers up.

If you're Saying "welcome to TTG" is spam then NO ONE should say hello to people in public. It's basically the same. If it's spam to say "Welcome to TTG" then they wouldn't give the option for people to respond to it.

Meaning no. It shouldn't be considered spam.

This is a tricky and touchy thing because while yes i do see some people spam to get post count up alot, I also dont see how and why it should affect anyone directly in any manner. Also, saying good luck to someone isnt really concidered toxic, They're wishing you luck on selling your item. I see both sides to the arguement so im not really taking any sides

It's only basically the same if you think everyone's intention is the same. Sure there are some people who post three word replies in the introduction forum because they want someone to feel at home, you don't usually see them doing it on every single post on the first page within 5 minutes, but of course these people exist.

But if you think that the majority of these people are genuinely wanting to welcome people onto this brilliant site and make them feel at home when they do this then you are naive and I feel sorry for you.
These people want posts, the introduction section is an easy place to get posts because people like you keep doing the apologetic dance of "They're just saying hello!"

This is where your analogy falls apart because the majority of people in the real world say hello to people to actually be nice, not because they want to score social points.
On this site it works the opposite way and how do I know this?

Because once those people realize that their post count means absolutely nothing on this website, what do they do? They leave.

They used to get banned, but now they leave. Either way they piss off, now it just takes longer since they stopped considering the vast majority of spam to be spam.

This site was much better when they had the 20 character limit and it's always made me laugh how people will always argue for the status quo on this site.

When suggested that they get rid of the 20 character limit, almost everyone said it was a bad idea, that spammers would run rampant, that it would lead to a decline in post quality.
Now that it's gone everyone argues that it's great that it's gone and that spam is very subjective now, that the staff would have too much work on their hands if they decided to target spammers.

If they brought it back you'd all start arguing that the 20 character limit is great and that spammers need to be targeted.

@OP: If we insist on having this rule that spammers are allowed to post 'GLWS' and nothing else because it's relevant then the only saving grace in the rule is the end part:

Excessive low quality posts will result in the deletion of the posts.

In theory this should mean that if you have a look through a suspected spammers post history and see multiple 'GLWS' posts you can include that information in your report and they should be penalized. But unfortunately for people who actually care about putting quality into their posts, the first part of the rule could still mean that they get away with it:

Do not post small or useless posts that are not relevant to the topic being discussed.

The key word there is 'relevant.' GLWS is technically relevant to the topic.

Basically you can spend all of your time on this site trawling through the posts of people who care about their post count, and not much else, and reporting them with the hope that the staff see's them for what they are, or you can just hope that one day they'll bring back the 20 character limit.

I'm doing the latter and I'd advise you to as well.

I honestly don't think it's spam. They're just saying Good luck and showing appreciation towards their services. It's good to be polite.

So when people post over 30 a day with simlilair text just switched up wording they genuinly mean "Welcome to TTG"? Bullshit. Also, I site is way different then a real life.

I mean, I wouldn't call it spam. Unless the person who said "GLWS", said that on every shop. If different people are saying it on different shops, what's the problem? It's kind of like saying that saying someone that they have good prices or what someone stated before. "Saying welcome to TTG would be spam then and congrats on something."

If it's not the same user, then it cannot be deemed superfluous. Now if a user is posting the same thing in several different threads, then it would certainly be spam. But, it's a generalized thread pertaining to sales - what else is a user supposed to say other than to vouch, or simply say good luck? It's helping push the original poster's thread to the top of that specific forum, so it's only helping them gain a larger client base.

If that's the case, then "Congratulations on your milestone!" or "Welcome to TTG!" should be considered as spam as well since there's one of those posts daily, no?

Hardly.
A congratulations is a general thing, and half the point in making a milestone post. You're letting other members know what you've accomplished and they're saying well done etc. That is literally all those posts are.

Also the welcome posts, again it's the sole purpose for new members to introduce themselves and in return receive a friendly welcome.

Commenting 'GLWS' is generally shit, just a friend bumping their post or filling it up a little so it doesn't look so empty, and the point in posting a shop isn't to have people commenting 'glws', it's to get customers, have questions/orders etc.

Probably a 70/30 thing though. 70% are in with it (+ the precious post count) and the other 30% get annoyed by it.
