So, early June, I built my pc (Ryzen 1500X, MSI B350 TOMAHAWK, 16GB DDR4 Corsair LPX 2400),and everything worked. Time to update bios (success), now to turn on XMP to 2400. System won't post. Remarkably, I had almost an identical issue with my previous PC. I began to troubleshoot the same way. Reset CMOS (IN EVERY POSSIBLE PHYSICAL MANNER, because I can't get into the BIOS), nothing. Reseated ram into different slots. Then finally, I saw it. The motherboards CPU EZ DEBUGGER light was on. Did I seriously fry my CPU? Ha, how? After countless hours or troubleshooting and research, I threw in the towel. I had enough. Both the CPU and board got sent off to RMA because I had no of knowing which part caused the problem. Pretty sure the motherboard killed the CPU. No Idea how. And YES, I made sure it was the CPU debugger light and not the ram, as I tried booting the pc without ram, and the dram light appeared. Another thing I tried was booting the pc with the heatsink off, finger on the processor to try to feel it heat up. Nothing.

Now my new parts are on their way back, so I am panicking over "what if it happens again?"

Odd. I was searching the MSI B350 TOMOHAWK compatibility page for RYZEN ram. This is VERY strange. I have 2 8GB sticks of identical corsair ram bought as seperate sticks, but on Amazon I set 'Amount' as 2 for the ram sticks. Shouldn't be an issue as far as I'm concerned, but let me know if you guys think it's an issue. Anyway, the strange thing. (Feel free to look at MSI's compatibility page for reference:

My ram's number: CMK8GX4M1A2400C16
Single 8GB stick. It's not on there. I don't have an operating PC atm, so someone CTRL+F, that'd be great.

Anyway, please help, I can't afford another 16GB ram. I can run this ram at 2133 without XMP on, but I would prefer a fix.

When It comes to memory, they are very fragile in that if you don't buy 2 sticks that came together, you'll get issues. I tried to upgrade my 8GB kit with another of the same RAM... didn't even get past posting.

Next up, you have Ryzen. Oh boy there are issues with it and memory. I would suggest that you keep an eye on the motherboard's website for BIOS updates and install the newest one [after yours ofc] to see if you can get your memory working.

Just to let you know, Ryzen doesn't work of XMP. So it might be best to manually input your speed like I have done below.

In terms of what you could do with the RAM. I suggest sending both back to Amazon and getting another kit of 2 instead of buying individuals. Amazon are normally good with returns and if you state that you're going to be buying more, I'm sure they'll be okay with that.

In my bios, if I do not have XMP enabled, I can't manually set my ram speed. The only option is 2133. The sticks I believe are fine. I'm fairly certain they work fine, as they run in dual channel fine (well, ran).
