I'm not trying to come across as a bad person or cause any arguments but hear me out.

The Off-Topic Discussion forum has recently been plagued with peoples personal problems. This is a gaming website, not your own personal counselling. Lets roll back the clock as little as a year ago, I cannot recall depression posts at all.

I can count 5 topics alone on the first page of the Off-Topic Discussion category about people sharing their very very person problems on here. The same can also be said about people (young teenagers) sharing their sex lives on here too.

The point I hope to get across is that by sharing your problems on here, it might encourage trolling which in turn will make your problems worse.

There are plenty of organisations dedicated to helping depression or whatever problem you may have. Don't listen to someone on here who knows very little about a mental illness/disorder such as depression or anxiety. Seek professional help.

I find it depressing that I come onto TTG as an escape from the anxiety, stresses and depressions of my normal day to day life and I'm just greeted with the same when I log on.

Maybe the reason they are depressed is because no one listens to them and maybe they have no one else to go to.

Just because this is a gaming forum doesn't mean we can't be human beings and help one another.

That's what makes The Tech Game what it is, people helping other people.

I am always there the help someone who may be struggling on here; but the point I'm trying to get across is to try not to publicise your problems too much. It may lead to further problems.

I think the details of some peoples posts is whats off putting. I remember a post about a week ago about a guy explaining in detail how his girlfriend raped him and how he's mentally effected because of it.

I don't want to be hearing stuff like that.

Imagine if someone you never met walked up to you in the street and told you that they're depressed and want to kill themselves. I suppose you'd be weirded out.

I agree with you man but i can see why some people post them on here.

They cant post to Facebook or any other social media because everyone knows who they are and they could be afraid that someone might say something to them about it. But here not that many people know each other in real life so its easier to express how you feel without being judged. Everyone is kinda of anonymous on here unless they tell a lot about them self

If you are depressed go get help. I went down that road for 2 years back in middle school and i hated it. I wanted to kill myself, dint want to talk about my problem to anyone, I legit hated my life at the time.

I ended up going and talking to my parents about it and got help from a counselor. It was a lot easier to talk to someone i didn't know about my problems rather than talking to my friends or family about it.

If you dont want to go get help to deal with your depression then find task to keep your mind busy. The major things i did back then was play video games because it allowed me to get away from everyone.
Find an active you enjoy and go do it all the time

I've also suffered from depression for many years - but I don't think publishing it online for thousands to see would help me.

Especially because this site is full of a lot of teenagers who can be very immature - I don't feel its the right site to share very personal problems and especially in extreme detail.

Maybe post a topic saying you're down and ask people to DM you to have a talk, but publishing a in-depth novel about your depression and problems not only discourages other users from going on the off topic discussion forum but encourage immature children to bully the poster.

Everyone deals with in different ways man. Some may feel that people on here may actually listen to them.

Some people can express themselves better over the Internet than they can in person. They possibly have other alternatives as in who they could talk to but they don't have the courage to do so. Society has made it so that people think that there's no such thing as a mental illness and that "it's just a phase" and it'll eventually pass. Sure, there are different alternatives for a person to vent and release some of the emotional weight they have on them but some people just CAN'T express themselves. Telling people to talk it out and seek some help is just that: telling them.

Also, society has managed to make suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety and other mental conditions "fads". Mental disorders or conditions are not fads, they're real things that cause damage more than people imagine and should be treated as such.

Returning back to your topic, I agree with you to an extent. People should seek help that isn't from a "gaming forum" but if I'm not mistaken, the Staff wants people to feel part of a community of helpful individuals who help each other as much as they possibly can. The topics that consist of people venting out their thoughts, you could just ignore. There's really not that many of them. Yes, some of the topics seem to go a bit overboard but the Off-Topic Discussion section is for writting pretty much everything you want.

This is a tech forum not a place to seek generalized help about it, couldn't agree more.
