I'm 16 years old about to finish my sophomore year of high school. My parents are pushing me to choose a college and choose what I want to do after high school. I'm not sure.

I've always been good with computers, so i'm considering being a security researcher, but I would rather take a shot at acting. It's been my dream job for as long as I can remember. This is where I need help

The chances of becoming a successful actor probably isn't big, but it's my dream. Should I go with acting, or get into the IT/computer field and try that. Seeing as it's always been easy for me.

Go into IT - It can take you anywhere; literally.

While studying you can still take small acting jobs as and when they come up this way you will be able to access if you have a possibility at making it as an actor.

Depending on the school you go to, there's likely a program for both. Start with either CS as a major or minor and acting as a major or minor (opposite of what you chose CS to be). Start taking classes for both right away with a focus more on the major. If you fall in love with your minor, make it your major and completely drop the other program unless you want to pursue a minor in it. If after 1 year you don't like the original minor, drop it. That way you can test the water in both departments and see which one you'd rather.

EDIT:
I'm so tired sorry for all the edits and mistakes.

if you go into security researching, your job lists open up considering it is in a way related to what i work within CW for the military. You can get good pay, but you have to make a good profile for yourself.

Someone mentioned IT, its alright but not the best choice IMO many better paying jobs for anything related to computers. Consider this as well, if you want to go into SR you will need certs to even be considered to be hired at times.

but SR is a good subject if you can get yourself up to industry standard, especially at your age you have the opportunities lined up out of school if you do it right.

The only scam about college are the classes that are irrelevant to your major.

Or the fact that you have to pay thousands to do something you don't wanna do to be able to make more money than someone who doesn't go to college. That's just bullshit. I should be able to make the same amount as someone who went to college if I'm doing the same job as them. You should be paid based on your skill and what you know. Not if you have a piece of paper or not.

You need to do what you think is best. If you want to go into acting, because it's your dream, then do it! Don't go into IT if you're not going to be happy with that sort of career.
