I'm going to be getting new wheels soon for my 2016 Chevy Malibu LS that now sports 16 inch rims. Would I be able to put 20 inch wheels on straight away or would I need to change something to be able to fit them?

You should be good with 20s.
But if your looking to do any suspension modifications you will probably have to switch em out.
I seen a guy with 22s on his and the poor car was raised high af it looked ridiculous but never the less it was a beast.

Speedometer might be off by a few mph.

Youll have to check. Also might want to see if the tires will rub when making a turn if you arent going to raise the car a little bit.

How tall is the tire? The wheel doesn't change anything as long as it will fit inside a stock height tire. As far as rubbing, that is determined by offset. If you find a set you like, go into a tire shop and have them test fit that wheel / tire setup.

I also plan on bagging the car so not sure how that'll also affect it

... alot....

I would join some Malibu forums and see if anyone has done what you want to do and ask them about it.
