There is 4 rings now. Alpha, beta, ring 3 and ring 4. Cannot recall the names or if there are names for those rings (3 & 4). Alpha ring is for members of Insiders that give a lot of feedback and for veteran Insiders. Other rings are for the less active or those that aren't high up on the leaderboards for score.

Alpha as it states in the app is for the cutting edge, they get all the updates first. Beta is second in line for updates, they're usually a couple weeks behind or up to a month behind Alpha updates. Alpha's tend to run into more bugs while beta has more better builds. Ring 3 and 4 are pretty close to public release builds but can still test the new dashboard builds before the public.

I'm in Alpha ring myself, almost 2 and half years in the program so far. My leaderboard position is in the 1400's last time I checked.

I'm in the Alpha Ring 4 which receives the least updates but would like to move up to get them earlier but I don't know if that's even possible

All I can say is keep earning score through quests, ratings, surveys, and reporting problems. You'll move up the line eventually.
