002 wrote Best car for what? GM made good military vehicles (Hummer and Suburban / Escalade), Ford is testing the boundaries with making aluminum vehicles and making a hybrid muscle car, and Chrysler and Fiat are joined companies based out of Michigan, Fiat owns Ferrari and Maserati so it all depends on where you want to draw the line.

Speaking in terms of performance. While technically yeah Ferrari is owned by Fiat, it's Italian manufacturing and technology.
The U.S doesn't really have a performance vehicle that can really compete. Perhaps the new Ford GT but that car still hasn't been released so we don't know.

We'd put forward one of the most advanced, technological cars.
Something like a Tesla or i8.
Not even a car, more like a robot.

The way I see it, American automakers are the testers (for example Ford using aluminum in a truck or making a hybrid Mustang), and the Europeans are just refining it. There are two sides to performance though, and honestly I think America has it done best (American bias of course). American vehicles are affordable, whereas not many people have $500k+ to spend on a car to go fast. Not only that, but you get a Corvette with 50k miles and it's a normal car. Get a Lamborghini with 50k miles and it's a "high mileage" car. Not only that, but look at maintenance costs. Also look at how many issues European cars have. An American car can sit. If a European car sits they get leaks and fouled plugs. I'm sure someone will say "well my X car doesn't have that issue", but it's seen time and time again over forums and Youtube.
