I'm building a computer tomorrow and if I use my old hard drive do I need to buy a new operating system?

Do you still have the disc and activation key for the OS you currently have?
If so, then no you don't need to buy a new one. Just reactivate it on the new computer.

No you don't need to buy an operating system all you need is a flash drive (preferably 8GB), Rufus, and some brains.

Download the ISO from the ubuntu.com link above.
Download and install Rufus on an already existing computer.
Run through Rufus its pretty explanatory
Put USB into new computer and boot and install the OS.

Windows is bad

You will need to install it again on the new PC, if you're asking if it'll just be on the HDD, then not necessarily.

i build a pc using the same old hd i had in a pre built and the os stayed so no you wouldnt but some will not work out of the box
