Hello TTG!!
I'm trying to Jailbreak my ps3 and have looked at a few videos. Wondering if some helpful people on here could help me along. Maybe give a detailed how to or an excellent video link to one. As well as the information on the console that I might need. (i.e. do I need software version, or firmware version?) all help is gratefully appreciated!!

If your console version is higher than 3.55 you can't jailbreak your console. You need to buy a E3 Flasher to jailbreak your console. You need to check your C-CECH Code at the back of your console and that way you can find out if you your console is jailbreak-able. I would learn on some tips and tricks because the way you worded your sentences you sound confused. Just research and do your homework on PS3 Modding. There's a book I could write out questions for you, just research before buying dude!
Tip: Don't update a software onto a CFW = You'll brick your console.

It's CECH and it's already updated to 4.80. The jailbreak was mainly going to be used as a way to use mods on gta 5. So would I just be better off trying to mod the game through one of the USB mods then?

Well you need some sort of protection for yourself not to get banned so with 'USB Moding' You're not protected by any means. I would mod Campaign first and work away around. Work up the ladder as you go along. Maybe leech a couple of menus, then see the codes inside of the menu then code a couple for yourself and then when you're more confident . It's all about trying out new things and improving.
This may be crazy to think, but when I was't way into the Jailbreak scene
- I used to leech MW2 CFG Mod Menu's.
- Used to leech the menu and add more codes into the menu myself
- Used to make my own Mod Menu Bases and code CFG
- Now I'm more confident what to do, glad that I'm into more of the JB Scene now to be fair.
