Hello, so currently I have HIDS on my mustang. I lover them so I want to buy some for my truck. But a friend said it can be an issue because they will be so bright and in people's eyes. I also plan on buying a projector type housing.

Can police stop me for this? Can I get in trouble for this? I live in minnesota.

Edit: I should just google first haha. I found I think the answer. 35W is okay. 55w is offroading. They said 35W for headlights and 55W for fog lights. I'll have to look at HIDS now.

EDIT:EDIT: So I guess a better question would be.. where did you get your hids? I don't remember where I got mine it was a couple years back. I think they were located in Germany or something..can't remember

I'll bring buying from online. I never got in trouble in my mustang but that obviously isn't tall like my truck. People did flash me though so they weternal still bright.. but I also get blinded by newer cars.

One things for sure, when I see those HID's that push the legal limits, they get a nice blinding flash from my light bar.

Is there any reason you're going with HID's? Have you tried the standard Sylvania Silverstar ultra bulb?

I really just want to light up the night lol... One thing I liked about the HIDs in my mustang is even though I was low to the ground I still could see alot and I could see far.. That's all I want... I want it to be bright and to have a wide long range of sight

EDIT: I'm also looking at new housings.. I was on the hunt for HIDs. Not anymore though most likely as long as the silverstars ( or other brands that can be bought at walmart for a fraction of the price lol ) can provide me with a great range of sight at night. But, with the HIDs I was trying to find a new headlight housing. I was leaning towards a projector type but their are plenty of bad reviews.. this is what I'm currently looking at now..

I just want something black or smoked out I have a matching tail light set that would go with these.. Let me know your opinions and give me the "Facts" or how good silverstars are also! Thanks!

This will not only save me alot of money but be totally fine for me as long as I can see very well...

EDIT:EDIT: Is this what were looking at?

Yeah, the 1 piece projectors for the 97-03 F-150's are garbage. The ones you linked to will work great as those are just the housings and still using the stock style bulb. The issue you are going to run into though is black doesn't reflect light. Sylvania SilverStar's are plenty bright (for me on back country roads anyway) but when I had black housings they just weren't as good as when I had stock housings.

Where do you live and what do you have trouble seeing? Is it city driving or when you're on roads with no cars / lights? If it's roads with no lights, pick up a light bar. I got a 20" for 50 bucks direct from China and it's awesome.

I was thinking about that today.. How would just the OEM housings hold up? Would they be better then
https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Housing-Driving-Assembly-Expedition/dp/B00X2C51LQ/ref=sr_1_25?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1475019580&vehicle=1999-54-666-------------0&sr=1-25&ymm=1999%3Aford%3Af-150&keywords=1999+f-150+headlight+housing

Or will those be better? I am trying to also get a new look to my truck haha thats why I'm looking at housings..

And the driving would be highway in the country no like offroading. Pitch black highways

EDIT: Or even these
https://www.amazon.com/Headlights-Headlamps-Replacement-Pickup-Truck/dp/B01LAG2UR8/ref=sr_1_43?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1475019695&vehicle=1999-54-666-------------0&sr=1-43&ymm=1999%3Aford%3Af-150&keywords=1999+f-150+headlight+housing

Those are cheaper. The thing to compare is just the clear housing vs like the reflector type OEM ones

If I were in your position, there's two routes I would go. If I was happy with light output on roads with other people but not happy with the light output on vacant roads, i'd get a light bar. Even two 6" bars to stick in your bumper, or you can mount a 20" behind your grill on the radiator support.

The other thing too is you can stay with stock headlights, but if you're like me and are bugged by not having clear lenses, check out the Harley Davidson edition headlights, or the Lightning headlights (Harley Davidson and Lightning are models of the F-150's, not brands of headlights when you look at the Chinese knock offs).

All of these would be great choices because the centers are reflective.
