Hello, theirs like a 90% chance in going to get a 1999 ford f150 today. It will be my first trick ever. I just have one question though. The steps on the outside of the truck... I think there called running boards. Are gone. I'm assuming they rusted out as I see that alot. Can you still buy new ones and throw them on? Or after they gone forever? Thanks

It really depends. The connect to the cab of the truck, if you look under the truck you'll see round holes. This is where the step mounts go. If they are good you can absolutely get different steps. If those are all rusted out and falling apart, forget about it. If that's the case, let me know and I can tell you how to make it work (requires welding).

I had a '97 F-150 that I knew inside and out, if you need any help with the truck let me know, and good luck on the purchase

Got the truck! I looked under their just briefly earlier and it looked smooth all the way across like no holes anywhere.. I am about to leave and give it a car wash. I'll take pictures of the truck and post it

Good job man, can't wait to see it! I'll see if I still have some old pics, the cabs were mass produced so there will be holes there unless someone did a jacked up rust repair lol. There are usually plugs in those holes in the truck didn't come with running boards from the factory.

Would these work alright? I have no idea what to look for, for mounting wise.. the truck has nothing atm but the holes

I had a set just like that, mine were Aries 3" bars that looked exactly like that. My only gripe about them was after like 3 months they started looking like crap. They never rusted on me (we don't have salt on the roads in the winter though), but they oxidized horribly. They were listed at like 200 and I picked them up after a sale at Realtruck for like 130. I always wanted to bedline them, but never pulled the trigger before I sold the truck lol. They used the same exact brackets and hardware though so those I know will be easy to install.

Personally though, I like the 5" or 6" bars just because they are easier to step on. It's not like the 3" is somehow difficult but that extra 2-3" sure is nice. It doesn't look as nice but man it functions great lol.

Lol sorry, I didn't even see the first one. My first comment was about the second one. The second one says it's for a 97/98 so it will not have a step pad for the rear drivers side door because 97/98 only had a passenger rear door.
