I think a shopping mall could make a cool base, just gotta make sure you have the entrances blocked off and if you're going out scouting having a save exit/entry. I'm not too sure what my weapon of choice would be probably a gun.

i would definitely buy a couple ars somewhere in my town and hide at the nearest costco or walmart.

there is a bridge near my house i would set up barricades on both sides of it and fend them off there and i would have a backup base below the bridge in the river i would get to the river with a rope ladder
