First of all, feel free to argue my point. Please remember I am just ranting my opinion. I warn that I may sound like a child complaining about stupid stuff, but I assure you, I am a university student.

Okay so I completely understand when teachers/professors ban technology due to the distraction it can cause. I want to complain about professors that don't allow students to use technology for their learning benefit. (Like for me, my handwriting is only legible by me, many other people have trouble reading it.) So I prefer to type it. Or having my laptop out to open the PowerPoint that currently being presented, so I can make notes on the side.

Let me know your opinions. There are other instances too, I just can't think of them at the moment.

I have classes like that. The reason that it is like this is because in most cases the technology use can be seen as disrespectful to the professor. Your case is slightly different, however as you stated, you are given the power points before hand.

If your hand writing is bad, print the notes and add comments to them. You could also just type your notes out on your free time to make them easier to read.

In the syllabus, most of the time, it states the colleges policy on technology. You are in college and adapting is something that you will have to deal with, especially as you get into higher level classes.
If your handwriting is that bad, you should work on it. You could even get a copy from someone in class.

Not being able to use technology isn't a problem. You just have to find ways to make the professors rules work best for you.

I agree with your man. My hand writing is shit and I can only read it half the time. I also use my laptop to take notes. If you have a professor say something about it just tell them you are talking notes on it. I was using my IPad to take notes on the first day of class and the professor yelled at me for having it out. After I showed him that I was actually using it for notes he didn't mind and apologized to me about it.

I hate it when professors don't get with the times. I have a professor with a class of like 300 people that still uses those transparent sheets of paper with an expo marker on those old projectors and hands out worksheets (to all 300 people). It annoys me because the class could be so much more effective but this guy doesn't know how to use a computer. Put these worksheets online for us to work on at the least.

I take notes on my surface pro 4 with the surface pen in Microsoft OneNote & Evernote. I plan on getting a surface book for better pen pressure. I have it down flat like a regular notebook so my professors don't really care and it isn't a distraction to regular note takers. If a professor doesn't let me use it (rarely happens maybe happened like once or twice) I just use a regular own and paper then copy it over to OneNote/Evernote during free time. Also thankful that my professors put everything online on their blackboard pages, including lecture notes and handouts.

To be honest my room mate takes his notes via Microsoft Surface Pro and does fine in all of his course's. It's up to the professor but still if they take technology away due to distractions. I think it's stupid. If the person is paying for the class and decides to not pay attention instead of taking notes then that's their choice. Others shouldn't be punished for someone else's actions.

I feel that a laptop is a necessity in college. I would recommend talking to the guy

I have to agree with you. I personally also prefer typing because my hand writing is also less than perfect, I type faster and therefore take better notes on a computer, and it is all synced online so that I can't ever truly lose my notes.

But, on the other side of the coin, people that abuse the right to use technology in class like people not paying attention and messing around on the internet are the reason why some professors are like that.

Example:
I have this kid that sits beside of me in my Bio Lab and literally never does his work, doesn't take notes, anything. But, he will sit beside of me the full hour and a half and message people on Facebook. His phone will literally be vibrating constantly for the entirely of class. It is very distracting and a reason that teachers ban the use of things like that.

I have pretty bad handwriting as well. While I did very well in school, I didn't give a crap about it. I had a teacher that wouldn't let me submit a printed essay, so I hand wrote it and told him that he either grades it right, or accept the printed piece of paper. If not I will go to the school board and report you because this is hindering my learning capabilities and you are essentially forcing me to fail because you can't read my hand writing and won't accept the next best alternative. With that being said, he attempted to grade it and about half way threw I noticed that he switched to the printed version lol. After that I had no issues.

I have never come across a university professor yet that has disallowed me from using a laptop in class.

And for the most part, they seem to understand that we are there for ourselves, and if we choose to not learn and pay attention, then that is the students fault.
