FYI, the 4790 does cost half the value of the machine. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

If he's looking for a fixed price system and prefers not to build his own, the quality of the power supply isn't going to be the first thing he's looking at. If it works, it works. I do agree about the GPU however. But just because of the GPU I wouldn't justify building a whole new rig.

Edit: 2400mhz ram has been proven to provide a decent performance increase on haswell chips. There are numerous articles on the matter, here's an example: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Even know it is half the price it's still just a overpriced Xeon if it's not overclockable and the rig will have a seperate GPU from Intel HD.

Would be better just to buy new hardware anyway.

That build for that price gets a +1 from me.

The fact that it only needs a GPU upgrade to be a really really good gaming machine says alot and for that price, its a no-brainer

Sure, you could build one for that price but that CPU is great and the 270 is still a great GPU.

Also, regarding the PSU, its a good PSU. Your missing the fact the the CX range is split into a few categories. Anything below 750w is meh. The 750W unit isnt too bad and the 850 is good.

It's a used 4790. It's worth less than that. Plus, it's just an over-priced Xeon basically, which as I've said, he can get new for £175. PSU is definitely reason enough not to do with a rig since a poor quality PSU puts your entire system at risk.

RAM speeds, latency, brand, timings etc etc make minimal difference, especially to gaming performance.

Corsair must have recently changed their OEM for the CX850 then, because the CX850 used to be CWT OEM. There's no point buying that rig if he can get a better quality, newer rig with all new components.

So your telling me you would rather have:

A smaller, less good looking case
A less powerfull CPU
Stock cooling
8gb Of RAM less
No SSD

for the sake of it being "new" because I wouldn't. Id take that rig in a heart beat if I could.

Who cares if it isnt "new". The hardware is still great and it performs great.

That's a shame, coz I would have bought it in a heart beat. Was a class price!
