Yeah, don't think so.

Just because she had cancer at a young age and aspirations doesn't warrant media coverage and a twitter trend in my opinion.

Why are you being a dick

Good god a little girl passed away because of cancer

My gosh some people are so heartless

Show some respect, a 19 year old girl who had a dream died battling one of the worst medical conditions on earth.

Well I'm torn.
On the one hand it's a tragedy, and sometimes it's better to just keep your opinion to yourself even if you're right, which I think Wordsmith is.
On the other hand, I think the media has used this girl like a puppet to get money, and that it's pointless dedicating something - even something as paltry as a twitter trend - to one specific victim. It should be dedicated to all cancer victims.

At the end of the day, whether we cry about one victim or a million, nothing is going to change and this will be forgotten by the end of the week.

It's not about changing the inevitable, it is about showing respect and giving support to the people other than Lauren who had to endure this.

Oh, goody.

I was hoping I'd be bashed for being callous, though it's paramount I elucidate on my intentions.

'tis not an antagonistic comment, nor is it hateful.

If you wish to feign empathy for one of the thousands to die a day purely owing to her completely original (ironic) circumstances, then you're even worse than I am evidently perceived.

Let's be realistic here, whatever you feel for this girl will soon vacate the forefront of your mind; presumably replaced with trivial matters like a games console or what's for dinner.

I will not waste words acting like her untimely demise was heartfelt, nor should you unless she was your peer or you (somehow) feel a relation (presumably a case of "my x had cancer, I know the feels")

My condolences to the family.

Toodles.

But nowhere in the post does it say "respect to all suffering from what she suffered".
It's only her who is currently getting the attention/respect. Don't get me wrong, it is sad when somebody passes away. But I believe what Wordsmith is right. Why does having normal aspirations warrant a Twitter trend, and world-wide news coverage. Not really fair when a lot of other people just like her are currently going through the same thing.

I guess I just find it annoying that it actually takes a martyr-esque death for people to care about something which should be automatically cared about.
and that the people who do care will only care for as long as it is trendy to care about that one person, hence the Twitter trend.

I think that all people who are going through the same terrible illness deserve the same respect, which they all do. Just because one person is shown on the news it does not mean that she is above all other patients, it just raises the bar of respect for everyone suffering.
