They are pretigious machines...

Better quality than your normal Windows lappy.

+ the quality of OS X will help him in his tasks.

You can always check craigslist for some deals. You should agree to meet at an Apple store so they can restore the laptop for you and check for any damages. I purchased my MacBook Air only 4 months ago off craigslist and the Apple store did all that for me for free.

Still the Asus Zenbook that they released has on par build quality, so that's not really a point anymore imo. and imo if you're not used to OS X or haven't used it I'd still opt for windows.

Well if I'm honest, I do prefer Windows as an OS in general, but i do respect that Macs are brilliant machines.

I have both and i prefer both in different ways. OSX is an easy OS, everything is easy about it. Windows just has more on it.

but for design/editing purposes, a Mac is 100% the better option.

Yeah OS X is simple and mostly easy to use, but my preference would to still use a Windows machine as a workstation. Because of upgradability, I'd want to be able to swap CPU, RAM, etc. So I would still have a cutting edge workstation rather than waiting for apple to release a new product.
