Hey, ttg. Been a while. I have some questions regarding some upgrades i will be making over the next couple of weeks.

PSU- I'm going to be replacing my rather crappy PSU with a fully modular, larger PSU, as i'm overclocking my processor and GPU. Two questions here:

1-Is more wattage bad? Like, say i were to buy a 1300watt, and (with my parts listed in my motto) my computer isn't using a lot of it. Is that bad? (Besides heat and wasted power) will it cause damage to my components?

2-What wattage should i get? I'm torn between a 750 or higher. I have 3 hard drives, one solid state, 14 USB devices, my R9 270, and my i5 OCed to 4.4ghz. I'm planning on adding two external Hard drives, two internal, and probably another R9 270 in xFire.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

GPU- I'm picking up a 32inch HDTV to wall mount as a 3rd monitor. All i need to know is-

When i say 4GB, i'm meaning both of my R9 270s i plan to add, right now my single has 2gb.

1-Will the 4GB be enough for 3 monitors? 4?

2-How will the 4GB fair as it comes to games in the future?

3-What kind of wattage can i expect both of them to draw?
_________________________________________________________________________________________

RAM-I've been doing some testing, and i am using 90 percent of my RAM when rendering my videos and projects. I'm looking for LOW PROFILE ram in high quality. I'd like to know:

Price range-8gb/$200

Best ram for the job?

I have very little clearance between my CPU cooler and my ram slots. I was gonna go with

Vengance Low Profile Ram, but i want to know all my options.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Cooling-I want 4 good 120mm fans, for the side of my case. PWM, if possible. Price of about $200 for all 4, lower if possible.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Will absolutely REP. Any help is appreciated!

This is going to be meaty so sit back, grab a cuppa and enjoy.

Your rig wont pull more than 450w when its running at the max. Adding more components wont do much to wattage draw. Say if you wanted to add another card, that then would be your main wattage draw and you should look at a 550/600w PSU

With the new 900 series GPU's. you can triple SLI on a 750w PSU easily. They have great power consumption.

The AMD series cards are quite power hungry but still down pull much watts.

Depending on your PSU, you might not even need a PSU upgrade.

If you did, depending on what you want to do in the future, I would look into [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] for your rig now.

The 270 is a medium mid end card. IMO, running 3/4 monitors from it would be stupid.

Edit: Just saw you have 2 x 270. I think you should upgrade to a single more powerfull card if you want to run 3/4 montiors and want to game at the same time.

If you want to add another monitor/TV, I would say upgrade your GPU - the 270 just isnt powerful enough to cope with that kind of load.

4GB would be plenty for 3/4 monitors.

If you want a single more powerful card, the 970 is a great option which comes in 4GB varieties and will be able to cope with 3/4 monitors - just

Adding another monitor wouldn't effect your PSU since the power source is something from your mains. Though it will stress out your GPU more causing that to draw more power.

RAM is RAM at the end of the day. The things to look out for are:
Speed
Looks
Price

Depending on what ram you have now, I'd say just get another 8GB kit of that if it will fit under that monster cooler.

If not, Corsair does some nice LP ram which will do the trick.

Depending on what you want to mount your fans on, you want different fans.

If you want to replace the ones on your cooler, I would suggest [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] series fans. They concentrate on airflow so are good in that situation.

If you had a watercooling setup, I would suggest getting the SP [Static pressure] fans for better cooling on the rad.

For fans mounted on the case, the AF will do great as well.

That is by far the longest post I've ever made on TTG. With only a few spelling mistakes, I dont think I done that bad

Xiggy pretty much covered it all. I'm just going to add a few points. You could spend an extra 11 to get this;
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Same PSU that Xiggy suggested, just more wattage. It's up to you though. I'd upgrade GPU instead of adding a 2nd 270, it'd be a wiser decision. Sell your current 270 and look at something like a GTX 970 if you an afford it.

Also, adding another card with 2GB VRAM doesn't mean your VRAM adds up, the data is mirrored so you still will only have 2GB VRAM total, not 4GB.

Oh, and 1300W for a 4690k and 270 is incredibly stupid.

Wow, thanks you guys! I was going to go with a 970, but I wasn't sure if the power draw is higher than my 270. Im assuming it is. One of the biggest reasons I want to upgrade my psu is for not only future proof, but the modular abilities. Right now, i have Waaay too many cables hanging everywhere. Not to mention I don't actually have a 6+2 pin, just two 4pins.

970-wise, what brand makes the best one? I love msi afterburner, but I don't think MSI does a 970. I don't want to spend a bazillion dollars there. 300-400 Max for a new gpu.

How much better is the 970 over my 270?

MSI's Twin Frozr GTX 970 is great but any of them will be fine, obviously a non-reference cooler would be a wiser choice than a reference one.

No a GTX970 would have a lower power draw and better performance per watt. MSI do offer a Twin Frozr V 970 with semi-passive fans.

The MSI is reviewed brilliantly, and there are other manufacturers it just depends how much you have to spend.

Any non-reference cooler 970 will be fine. The Twi Frozr cooler on the 770's was fantastic and I'm assuming the TF V on the 970 will be even better. Gigabyte's Windforce cooler is supposed to be great as well.

Yeah, my twin frozrs on my 270 are fantastic. The ' Vs are semi passive, but can I change speeds as well, or isit just ccontrolled on it's own?
