I have a side panel on my Thor v2 with mounting points to replace the stock 230mm fan with 4 120mm fans. I'm wondering:

Is the stock one good?
Should i get a new 230mm or 4 120s?
Can i use a splitter to hook all of them up to ONE 4pin socket to use PWM with them?
It'd be nice to be able to control speeds better.

ALSO, i'm wondering, with my Phanteks cooler, what fans does it use and where/should i get a third one? I get temps of maybe 50-70 depending, but being able to get lower would be nice.

As always, help me, i'll rep!

Using three splitters to connect four fans to a single header will result in each fan getting a fourth of the voltage. Using PWM to lower the (average) voltage may not even allow the fans to spin up.

Larger fans tend to be quieter because they can move more air at low RPM. Four 120mm fans would probably be louder to achieve the same result, depending on the fan.

Adding a third fan to big dual-tower coolers has been shown to have almost no effect on temps, so I wouldn't bother. 70C is low, anyway. These are the ones that come with the PH-TC14PE.

I don't care in the least about noise.

Is there a 230 could recommend?

Depends on how much you want to spent. I have heard some good things about the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] but $20 for a case fan might be a bit much.

Not at all, if it's worth the money i'll dish it out.

I was looking at them, they seem to be the only people who make them anymore.

Almost all fans are 120mm now from what I see. Although the reviews on those are all generally good, I'd say get one of them

Crossfire is down to your CPU, PSU and motherboard as well.

What is your build at the minute? You say you have a Phanteks cooler so I assume Intel K series, if so that's fine processor wise.

You have to make sure your motherboard is Crossfire ready (Meaning it has a 16x PCIe slot and a second 16x or 8x PCIe slot typically) and that your PSU is of good quality and has enough wattage to support the two cards.

My entire build is in my motto, minus my two monitors and dell keyboard mouse.

I have a really low end 500watt PSU, but i have 1 16x and two 8x's. Cpu is an overclocked i5-4690k.

I was gonna buy a seperate, small, maybe 300watt PSU for the GPU alone, as i have everything wired up already, and don't care about space, noise, or energy, and i have a place for it on the side.

Lol it is there, sorry I was working on a CSS script for TTG and I didn't realize I couldn't see that until now, so thanks for that

You'd be better off just getting a $50-70 650-700w PSU than buying a second one just for that. Wiring won't take long to redo and if you get a Fully Modular PSU it will even look cleaner than before once done.

Seasonic typically have good PSUs so a 700w from them would probably do you. As far as a second PSU goes having two PSUs in a case equals more heat you don't want and more mess you don't want, save yourself the hassle and get one 650-700w PSU.
