So I was digging up the past today to look into my families history, I came across my great grandfather's World War 1 medals. I found everything I saw so interesting, that is until I looked at the name engraving on the side. They spelt his last name wrong on both medals...

Note: The name is supposed to be spelled 'Rubinstein'

I just felt that it's actually quite poor that they could spell it wrong! They have his name spelled right on every occasion in paperwork concerning him, this is the Army for goodness sake.

I just felt this was something to be shared, and to those who may be interested in the medals, here are a some pictures of the entire thing:

It's not just the UK army. All army's have a problem with this simple task. They ALL spell things wrong. Makes people upset (understandably) that they mis-spell things so frequently.

It's spelling, I don't think you should get upset over some spelling. Move on with your life bud.

Yeah it's not just the UK, My friends Uncle's dog tags had his name screwed up.

Edit: I was just asking him what was wrong and they issued him 2 sets but both had a typo.

Spelling the name wrong is pretty stupid because they were given directly to him as a reward and they couldn't even spell his name right.
However, it is not just the British Army that do this sort of thing, it happens everywhere. So it is unfair just to target the British Army, although this may be their mistake.

It's more than just a name though. This is a man that risked his life for his country, and it feels like without the correct spelling, he isn't even recognised for what he did. Names are something that we truly own; they don't get old and die, they can't be taken from us, they tell our stories, they are wholly ours. The man written on that medal didn't do those things.
