What type of console is it?

Do you know the current temperatures on the console?

If your xbox 360 is getting hot, fast then you may want to consider a more long term (possible) solution, which would be removing the old thermal paste and applying brand new thermal paste..

Just something to keep in mind, drawing that much power to the fan (100%) can be drawing out too much power from somewhere, aka overworking your console in some areas meaning down the road could end up with other issues, such as weak dvd drive motor or other unknown things to come.

Adjusting fan speeds is nothing to worry about though, if it helps your situation i'd say go for it.
