When having a tattoo they say keep it clean and moisturised after 1-2 of letting it dry out. It's been a week now and the skin is starting to peel... but the cream that everyone recommends is taking the skin with it as in when I rub it in it rubs the skin off. Of course you are not meant to rip or pull the skin or anything yourself so is the skin coming off when I rub he cream in normal?

(Only respond if you actually have a tattoo please)

Keep it hydrated and use bepanthen if you have that where you are but not too often as it will dry out after a lot of use. Tattoos will start to flake what look link ink fragments it's normal but your tattoo artist should have said they provide touch ups free of charge if it has a drastic effect.

*EDIT* When I had my tattoos when I applied cream some of the skin or flakes of what looked like ink would come off as far as I know its normal not every spec will remain some will flake without you noticing while you are in bed and such. Best to call in and see your artist and they will more than likely say the same thing and offer free touch ups.

I assume the cream you're using is A & D ointment , if not, thats what you need for tattoo care. Keep it cleaned with non scented antibacterial soap. The skin peeling is a natural part of the healing process, avoid pulling any skin off yourself. If its pulling off as you're rubbing cream on it, you might be rubbing too hard on it. Avoid pulling the skin off because it could pull some tattoo ink off with it.

What I usually do after getting a tattoo taking the wrap off is just washing it with non scented soap. When I shower I usually wash that spot last (idk if it's a true statement but I feel like if there is any partical from other soap there the non scented will wash it off) then I wait till my skin is dry and put non scented lotion on it. I usually lotion it every few hours (morning, lunch, before bed) but it's up to you whenever you wanna lotion it. It should take up to 2 weeks to heal so depending what you work with try to keep it away from grease, flour, oil. When it gets itchy don't scratch it try to like smack it because your nails can pull up the ink.

Thats normally, its gonna peel, just keep moisturizing it a few times a day. After a few months it gonna look normal.

This works wonders for tatts, dont be put of because it says nappy care lmao, its great.

People go overboard with the aftercare a lot it seems.
All of my tattoos have turned out fine after doing only the following:

- Wash with soapy water when you get home from having it.
- Bepanthen that night.
- Bepanthen the next morning.
- Bepanthen that night.

Then just leave it to heal on its own.

No more moisturizing or creams, just pretend you've had it for years.
This is the aftercare that the tattoo parlor recommended to me and I've had a few tattoos with no problems doing it this way.

And no, they're not some seedy back alley parlor who don't really know what they're doing.

Seems to me that rubbing the scabbing bits of skin off with the cream will be slowing down the healing process and could even be harming the quality of the tattoo depending on how hard you're rubbing the cream in.

Any chance we could see what you've had done?

Very true lol, the reason i always keep moisturizing like even for weeks after is that it itches so bad and i end up scratching it lol and moisturizing helps it out alot. Once the hairs grown back its fine.

Hey man.

This sounds pretty normal. I never had huge chucks coming off when I would moisturize my sleeve, but I would get little pieces. Maybe trying calling your artist and just asking for some advice.

Just remember not to pick at it and peel any of it off on your own. That will cause the healing to take longer and you will be ruining part of the tattoo.

After the first week is when you will notice peeling and/or extreme scabbing if the artist went and botched it up where severe scabs form. It is normal for the tattoo to start peeling, flaking off and even looking dull during that process. Is it very easy and normal for the old skin to be removed with the lotion/cream, but if you're worried about it, what I did personally did would be to use your finger with the lotion and apply it that way, instead of the palm of your hand. This allows you to be more gentle with the loose skin and gives you more of a 'warning' if you feel you're going to pull the old skin off. Just a heads up, when showing, try not to take a shower where too much steam is made. That can easily prematurely peel the old skin off because your pores open, your skin is moist and the heat will soften your new skin and your old skin, which makes it that much easier for it to come off, also try to avoid direct water constantly hitting it while in the shower if possible because the shower stream is enough to peel it off. Try your very best to avoid taking taking the old skin off on your own, such as peeling, pulling, etc. Some things are out of your control, might come off while sleeping, clothing will barely touch it and it falls off, as long as you're not forcing it off, you're fine, I just always took the extra steps to try and make sure it never came off prematurely to my best ability.
