So I went up to my local microcenter in St Davids PA and picked up an i5-8600k Coffee Lake edition and a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 5 (Butchered it), While there I saw the 1080 ti's going for 890 Which is the cheapest I have seen so I picked up one also as I intend to build another pc..
Anyways as I went for some ram I noticed something odd..
200$ for 16gb of DDR4 ram..
What in the world?? Earlier last year purchased 16 gigs for 60 mind that it was ddr3 its still shouldnt be 200, Or should it and im just dumb?

It's sinple economics, supply and demand.
The demand is extremely high, people constantly wanting to build and upgrade PC's.
The supply is very limited, making prices go up way higher
A lot of people blame cryptocurrencies like BTC because people buy stuff up to mine BTC with no other purpose(making that supply even smaller)

Basically, because more and more people are moving across to Nand based flash solutions for stuff like SSD's and smart phones, there just isn't enough being produced to cope with the influx of high demand. So, Flash based Nand products go up in price like RAM and SSD's

People mining cryptocurrency aren't the issue. It's almost definitely price fixing by the memory suppliers(Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron), and is now being ivestigated.
Their claims were that supply was low due to the demand with smart phones, GPUs, SSD's, DRAM, etc. This is why pricing for SSDs, GPUs(partially), and RAM increased so drastically.
It's ridiculous, I remember when you could get 2x8GB DDR4 for £60-70 easily, and I've just spent £200 for 16GB feels bad
