Who seriously wants to replace these statues with Brittney Spears? Where did you see this???

The statues belong in a museum.

Edit: A bunch of them have already been taken out btw, Charlottesville is obviously one, and there's been a few universities that have done it.

So mostly they are removing history? It's so stupid. What is going to be in future textbooks for our children or future children? "Black lives matter" "Neo Nazi's vs Confederates" You wont see the name Robert E Lee or stonewall jackson anymore.

I'm not saying I want statues of Britney Spears, but I'd rather statues of her than of the Confederates. The Confederates shouldn't be glorified. They shouldn't be honored. We need to teach that history responsibly.

But history is history, is it not? It happened 100+ years ago...why is it such a problem now?

Peanut butter was made over 100+ years ago. Just because something is history doesn't mean it's something sacred that needs to be protected. Nobody is erasing history or denying the Confederacy ever existed.

How is teaching history about the Civil War and now the same thing? They will learn about the confederacy and what they stood for when they learn the history of slavery and the civil war. They will learn that they were fighting to keep African Americans enslaved.

When they learn about now, 2017, in say 25 years, they will probably hear about the protests and brawls that happened when we "got rid of confederate statues". In reality, the statues like I said before belong in a museum. When they are out in public they are truly glorifying those leaders and what they stood for. In a museum they can be respected for the history behind them, and further educate the children that visit those museums.

It is something that is depicting history. It was an issue when they went up, but it has gained a bigger and louder voice recently. If we want to honor history, we should put up statues of those that helped free the slaves and the slaves themselves. We should honor and glorify them. I mean, I know I wouldn't want the men who fought to keep my family enslaved where they were beaten, raped, and killed to be created as statues and placed in the public. That is for museums and history books to teach. To place them in such a public setting seems like we revere these people, and that is a problem.

They wanna remove the Christopher Columbus statue from Columbus Circle in NYC. This is really getting ridicules. I understand removing Confederate statues and but now it feels anything that hurts your fee fees is offensive and must be censored/removed.
