Hello, fellow members of TTG. I am not one to rant much on here since I let people do what they wish and post what they want to post. But it's slightly annoying for someone to make a news topic, put a lot of thought into making the topic just to be responded with vague, lazy and generic one sentence thoughts.

If you're going to comment on a News Forum topic, at least try to put some thought into your statement and state why you think the way you do. The News Forum is for sharing news (whether it be local or world news) about serious matters; vague and empty responses shouldn't be used to talk about serious matters such as deaths, important political moves, etcetera.

Boosting post count isn't that important and I consider it irritating that people would boost posts on a serious topic. I will admit I did it at first but I got past that and started composing (or trying) to compose intelligent and clear posts. It isn't that hard to do really. All it takes is a little bit of effort and expanding your vocabulary a bit. Also, stupid "troll" posts on important topics should make you feel ashamed of yourself.

Not all "news" should be considered worthy of being in the News Forum, in my opinion. Celebrity gossip, for example, should be kept in the Media Forum if that is even acceptable to be placed in the Media Forum. Gossip is just that: gossip. Not important or relevant to the News Forum.

I say all of this due to the recent News Forum topics which have been spammed incessantly by some users (who I shall not name but everybody knows) who really don't make a contribution to any discussions of important subjects. Politics or human rights subjects are NOT a topic to make lazy replies. You wouldn't want someone walking up to your tombstone, for example, and just writing "RIP" on your tombstone as a hypocritical feeling to your death. That's the end of my rant.

I think the "RIP" part was about me.

Kaniel actually made a reply to someone on a news topic, I think back when either the vehicle terrorist attacks were happening in the UK or when that dude lost his shit over his girlfriend, wife, whatever, and shot an elderly man in the head on Facebook live and then said he was going to keep killing until he is killed; so a while back. Kaniel mentioned seeing how many people just put "rip" "why does this have to happen" "this world is so screwed," things with that same repetitive posting; that people should at this point just write down a list of what they want to spam during those instances, save it somewhere and as they happen, copy and paste in what they feel for that moment. I don't remember the topic, maybe he remembers lol.

I've seen it countless times and I won't lie, when I first joined, I did that shit too, except back then my spelling was all over the place as I was still struggling with English as is. However I can see how repetitive it can be when you can find 3 or more people posting word for word about the incident. It's not even just TTG, I'm sure Facebook is the same. Reddit ehhh for the most part is clean and that's just because people who generally low-ball spam like that get downvoted to all hell and are dead bottom of the page and even then, you have to click a little tab to see what they wrote. Nothing is really going to change with the matter. Since the 20 character limit got removed, posts such as "rip those people" are allowed. It's not really seen as spam if multiple users do it in the same topic, I think it's different if you had one user going through all posts typing word for word.

I personally get annoyed when I see that as I may not want to go through all the responses, but because someone or a few people decided to spam the same reply, I may not feel inclined to further read the rest of the replies as I'm going to think it's the same shit spam. Which I then might end up missing out on a reply that would be a good discussion or just something to read and have a nice little mental visualisation on the subject or it may just be something I never knew and learned new that day, but because of a spam reply, ya boi might have missed out on that.

Edit: Found the post I was talking about.

Here is a link to the point about virtue signalling and saying stuff like "RIP"

https://www.thetechgame.com/Forums/t=7706400/multiple-terrorist-attacks-in-london-breaking-news/start=10.html

Completely agree with this topic. I would prefer to have a discussion of the events and maybe even share information rather than trying to seem like you care.

@Continuous has a good point:

Every time this happens, the same thing happens.

People will go online and say something like this "Just been watching about this on Facebook so sad" or this "For ****'s sake. Ugh."

It does nothing except boost your post count. Nobody cares about any of that. If you truly cared then you would do something more than just say a few words about how your so sad this happened.

Go and do something that is actually helpful.

I think the news forum is one of the main forums which could heavily benefit from a minimum character rule since the low tier comments in there are even worse that the modded lobbies section.

Anyway, Love reading the long posts from members like Kaniel (eejit), TaigaAisaka and many more.

I agree with everything on this topic so far and rather than re-write what others have said I'll just leave a quote that I think applies to the situation in the News forum.

'Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.' - Plato

Wise doesn't mean right, it just means willing to discuss and learn.
It seems to me that the news forum is experiencing a lack of wise men and an abundance of fools.

Then again the argument could be made that this is mainly a tech site for a teenage audience.
Mature discussions shouldn't be expected here as part of the norm, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be encouraged at every opportunity.

Even though this is a "tech" site, the news and even conspiracy forum around 3 years or so had some pretty good people who were ready to discuss things. A guy who changed his name a lot - Theo, Maul and Yin are all people I remember in there; with Yin seeming the be the only one who stuck around. Few other people that I don't remember their name right now but there was a time when the news and conspiracy forum were actual discussions instead of shit spam at times. However, there was a lot more arguing in those forums too, to the point that it became flaming. One topic I vaguely remember in the conspiracy forum was from some dude who had some variation of the name Kevin at the time, religious topic that went over well for a while, then someone caused it to spiral out of control and OP unfortunately fell for the bait and further caused it fall apart. Kinda miss those days where the news and conspiracy forum were more active and with actual discussions, but oh well I guess.
