Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has reportedly committed suicide at age 41, according to TMZ. Shortly after news broke, the L.A. County coroner confirmed to Associated Press that Bennington had died. According to TMZ, Bennington hanged himself at his Palos Verdes residence on Thursday, July 20.

Bennington struggled with drug and alcohol addictions at various times during his life. He was married and is survived by six children.

The band's most recent album, One More Light, topped the Billboard 200 earlier this year.

Linkin Park's massively popular 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, introduced the world to their immaculately produced hybrid of alt-rock, metal and rap. Its follow-up, 2003's Meteora, became the first of the band's six chart-topping albums. Over the course of seven studio albums and a collaborative EP with JAY-Z, Linkin Park established itself as one of the biggest and most influential rock bands of the 21st century.

This comes to a shock for me. I know we all have our ups and downs but leaving behind so many children and a wife let alone a band in which you consider a family also. Crazy to think of this.

Recent chart breaking hit by Linkin Park titled "Heavy".

How selfish of him to leave his 6 kids behind, however I was a big fan, and loved his music.
He will be much missed.

The mayority of people think that money and fame will bring happiness. This is the case in some situations but sadly, not in many. It's saddening to know that a talented voice such as his had to go before its time. RIP.

I'm not sure if he still struggled with the drug and alcohol addiction up until the moment he took his life but I could easily see why it would be a reason to do so. He's going to be remembered as a musician, but there's still going to be that lingering of he raised kids and was still suffering from a drug and alcohol issue while having them in his life. Some people can easily jump to the conclusion, saying if his own kids couldn't get him to quit those habits, that they meant nothing to him, which in turn could do damage to his kids. Not saying his death and more importantly his suicide won't do damage to his kids, but maybe this was his way of thinking he would "save" his kids from his drugged up or drunken self if he was still struggling with it. Even then, it's just a new wound for the kids, they're no longer asking why their dad drinks and does drugs, they'll instead be asking why he killed himself. If I'm assuming correctly with what I said, I understand his reasoning and thought process, because that was an "in the moment" deal, probably not thinking about the further outcome. Do I understand it, yes. Do I agree with it, that's it's own debate. I can say I relate somewhat. Having my own alcoholic "problem" and being an ex-pill addict who had the same thoughts once upon a time.

Going to get straight to the point, it is quite disgusting the way you're looking at it.

'Could of been a man about it checked into rehab got his shit together'

What, the ****.

Please go and educate yourself on the effects of mental health issues, the effects of having suffered abuse when a child, the effects of going through drugs and alcohol abuse, and then see if you think you would still be 'man enough' to just get dressed, walk down to the nearest medical centre for treatment. I would bet my life savings and my entire families life savings that you couldn't and in actual fact, very very few people could ever do that.

He's been battling his stuff since he was a child, leaving a lasting scar on his brain and life. Resorting to drugs and alcohol to combat the depression which comes which being the victim of child abuse when he got a bit older.

The music of Linkin Park is essentially a biography of the challenges Chester faced through his life, he was still writing songs about his battles to this very day. It is not, and never ever will be as easy as 'manning up' about mental health struggles, never.

Those who struggle, don't want to get up in the morning, feel a let down to their family, find themselves hating everything about themselves, seeing no hope for the future, finding it difficult to be happy, even in the best moments. The brain is what controls us, those who suffer with mental health issues, have little control over the way their brain functions. Uncontrollable emotions, thoughts and urges.

Just imagine the absolute pain he must have been going through mentally to feel like he should take his own life, the way he almost certainly thought about his wife, children and wider family in the moments before taking his life. This is not a selfish decision, it's a last resort for someone who feels defeated. Someone who has battled and battled for over 3 decades and got to the point where continuing on just wasn't something he thought he could do, even with support.

Chester is a legend, one of the greatest frontmen of one of the greatest rock bands out there and nobody with a conscience should even consider labling him as selfish for what has happened. Be productive and get out there and do whatever is possible to help the world come to terms that mental health is not something to be ashamed of, campaign for more funding for mental health services and get more knowledge out there about the effects and the services available.

Woah there cowboy, You must take the time to understand depression and mental illness logical thinking is very broken unless you've had to battle it and I hope you never do you will find it hard to understand.
