The city where network systems are developed: Den City. The giant company SOL Technology Co. is based there, and it uses advanced technology that it created to construct "LINK VRAINS," a virtual-reality space. In LINK VRAINS, a mysterious hacking group that hacks through duels called "The Hanoi Knights" appears. Their goal is to bring about the destruction of the "World of AI: Cyverse" that exists somewhere in the network. However, there is one duelist in LINK VRAINS willing to stand up to this threat. His name is Playmaker. Playmaker defeats The Hanoi Knights in a fierce duel, and then leaves without saying a word. Playmaker's real identity is the high school student Ysaku Fujiki. For Ysaku, he spends so much time in LINK VRAINS because he is searching for the truth to an incident that happened in his past.

The mysteries of the Abyss fascinate humans, and they head down to explore. The adventurers who venture into pit are known as "Cave Raiders." A little orphan girl named Rico lives in the town of su on the edge of the Abyss. Her dream is to become a Cave Raider like her mother and solve the mysteries of the cave system. Several decades have passed, and the Yggdmillennia family, who took upon the Holy Grail as its symbol, defected from the Mages' Association and declared their independence. Furious, the Association sent a force to deal with the Yggdmillennia, but they were defeated by the summoned Servants. With the Holy Grail War system changed, war with seven versus seven, breaks out. A restaurant called "Yshoku no Nekoya" (Western Cuisine Cat Restaurant), which is located on the first basement floor of a building at a corner of a shopping district near an office area. While it normally feeds salarymen, there is a secret in Nekoya. Every Saturday when the shop takes a day off, Nekoya is teeming full of "special customers." For the office workers, it is a familiar place with familiar dishes, but for these Saturday customers "people from that world" it is nothing but cuisine never seen or heard before.
