About a week ago I was in Discord with one of my friends and well for some weird reason my sound stopped working. First it started with the mic not registering my voice after a few minutes the sound quit working.

I have done everything from drivers to restarts. But I figure I'd post here anyway maybe someone will know how to fix it?

So I guess I can start off with my motherboard which is an MSI H81M-P33 I also have a GTX 960 and I use HDMI hooked up to my TV. Far as I can tell it's not the GPU and it's not any of my cables or even my TV. I even tried using a different HDMI port to using a DVI cable and nothing.

I also mainly use headphones which are plugged into the front panel my audio manager is Realtek HD and the driver is the very latest which is 6.0.1.8083. When I take out my headphones the sound comes through the TV and for that I use Nvidia High Definition Audio which is the latest for me 1.3.34.26.

Another thing when I do sound troubleshooting it tells me I have enhancements turned on for my speakers (my headphones) and for my TV. I go into the options and they are turned off this message always pops up always. If I continue with the troubleshoot it tells me to turn up the volume despite it currently being at 100%. A detailed report tells me the first message with the enhancements it says I need to reinstall audio driver which I have done many times.

Another oddity is if I try to play a test sound in the mixer in throws an error every time saying "Failed to play test tone." The playback devices are correct and configured correctly.

Also my mic wont pick up my voice anymore even though it's plugged in and it's on.

I've either come to the realization that it's either something blocking my audio or the soundcard on my motherboard is dead. Can anyone please help me out? Will rep big time.

Seems like an issue with the headphones and not the computer if the sound will play through another device still (your TV). I would suggest trying another pair of headphones and see if it works then

Nope headphones work fine I can plug them into my phone and they work.

Also if I unplug any headphone from the computer sound should play through the TV but it doesn't there's no sound at all.

Did the sound stop working after you updated the driver?
Did you check on that company's site to see if there is a newer driver?
Did you open up your computer before this broke?

1. No before the sound quit working the drivers were fine.
2. Read the OP I said I have the latest Realtek HD audio drivers & Nvidia HD audio drivers.
3. I take my panel off quite a lot but only when then PC is off so I can dust it out every so often.

I hate Realtek sometimes to be fair, do you have them setup for 5.1 surround or just normal? There are a few options in the Realtek manager.

You could change the bitrate, was an issue when i first got my logitech g930's.

Try down grading the driver and make sure everything is plugged in, inside your computer. Sometimes cables come loose.

Realtek works fine normally for me not sure if it was the program. I already tried changing the bitrate.

Nah I just use regular headphones for sound.
