As a Mac owner, and an owner of every operating system, I can tell you that a Mac is not for everyone.
Look at the info below to help you figure out what you want.

Windows
- you like gaming
- insane amount of programs.
- you like adding parts to your pc, but you might have to find drivers. (can be buggy)
- poor security by default
- tons of support

Mac:
- you like being creative (coding, drawing, editing, etc.)
- you want tons of programs, but you could careless about freeware.
- computer parts hard to customize, but everything works extremely well together.
- you want moderate security by default
- can be very expensive
- tons of support

Linux:
- you want something similar to mac
- you don't care about programs, games, etc.
- you can have high security by default.
- you love programming.
- Linux is free and can be easily installed along side window/mac or on a virtual machine
- support can suck depending on which distribution you get.

Get a Dell XPS it is the only non Mac laptop I've found to be a good alternative to my Macbook Pro. OS means nothing to me personally as I run Arch Linux on most devices exceptions being my gaming desktop and my consoles. However if you enjoy OSX stick with Mac as you cannot get it on any other system without some annoying hacky methods.

No. It's never worth getting a Mac.

Not really, unless you anticipate an increase in capabilities in the future. For the price tag, I'd personally just keep my current MBP, and perhaps save up for a Mac Pro or iMac.

@Critical you're talking about operating systems, as if Parallels isn't a thing. It's extremely easy to run Windows on OSX. Since Linux is modeled after Unix, which all of Mac OS X are certified as, there's not much need to bring it into the discussion; especially a discussion regarding buying a new MacBook. Here's a picture of me running the Xbox App using Parallels on Windows 10 (I believe) in Coherence mode:

I would personally buy a different name brand. As much as everyone loves Apple considering I have an iPhone, I don't think you get what you pay for on a Apple laptop. They are crazy expensive for the kind of performance you get out of them. What are you looking at using the computer for?

The performance? I've never heard anyone complain about a recent MBP in terms of performance. Heck, they seem to be becoming industry standard for developers in various fields. They definitely are expensive; but I do feel like they're cheaper in the long run since you don't really have to worry about anti-virus software, and built to last a long time so you wont be spending another $800+ for a new laptop in a few years because the one you have is on its last leg. I have an old backup white Macbook that runs with no problem, and was even able to upgrade to one of the more recent OS X releases, surprisingly.
