Especially the defending ones. It's the difference between having a defence that stays back and pushes when necessary and a defence that is all over the place and has huge gaps.
If you're not using custom tactics and instructions then you're putting yourself at a huge disadvantage.

Yes.
Custom tactics take the biggest responsibility in your type of play, if you can't seem to play well, change the custom tactics to your style of play.
For example i play tight at the back, i like to have a lot of space in the middle of the park, and i like to have fast wingers always making runs to cross into my target man striker.
