So i was playing my ps3 and in the middle of my game my ps3 shuts off and i didn't have any money to fix it for like a year and i finally opened it to see what was wrong with it and i found out the cpu from the motherboard was stuck to the heheatsi,is it fine that way or do i need to get it back on the board? Will changing thermal paste fix it if i thermaled the cpu to the heatsink then lined the board up will that work? How do i fix it?

so the cpu came off the motherboard?

in order for this to happen temps would of had to be 230 C kind if impossible to reach those temps before it would of shut down

I sent it out to be jailbroken so do you think whoever did it took it off to change the thermal paste and just put it to the hheatsinkWhen i looked at the thermal paste that was on there it was all over the heatsink and llookedlike it wasn't put on right. If i was to get thermal paste and change myself do you think it would would?I've seen a YouTube video of someone changing the thermal paste but put put the cpu to the heatsink not back on the board.

There is a cover over the gpu but not the cpu as of rn but i sent it out almost 2 years ago and it worked for a year then finally shut off one night. It obviously worked since you said the only it came off if it was really hot but my ps3 never got a loud fan or overheating issues.

So is it that the cover is on the GPU but not CPU or is there actually no CPU on the motherboard itself? Is there a way you can take a picture to show us exactly what's going on so we can help you better?

Ok that makes more sence now. If it never got hot then that's odd that it just shut off. Does the Leds come on when you plug it in? Possible just a power supply issue

I would take a pick when i get home. The leds do come one. When i turned it on it would go for a sec then shutoff flashing red.I did some research about what paste goes under the cpu it's mx4 maybe if i apply it then put pressure to make it stick to the cpu maybe i can line it up the the heatsink and hope it works.Whenver i opened my ps3 there was no mx4 in the middle of the chip it was all around the middle shiny piece.
