In France there is a holiday called "All Saints Day" on November 1st its a christian holiday, and I'm not sure if its something in the US. Anyway alot of business are closed for the day or close extra early.

Kinda nice I guess

In the UK in February exactly 47 days before Easter Sunday we have Shrove Tuesdays (more commonly known as Pancake day)

November 5th - Guy Fawkes/Bonfire night (weird I know, we celebrate a man who tried to blow up the houses of Parliament)

Other than that we have the usual, Mothers and Fathers day, Christmas, new years, Easter.

Numerous bank holidays (just a day off) usually related to something religious or to royalty.
