Any pics? Maybe you should shim it or pick up some JB weld and epoxy it in place.

It really depends on who your are, if you want it done "right" you'll go to a dealership and spend probably 50-100 bucks. Or you can go to an exhaust shop and get it done for 30-50. What I did was just cut it off for free.

My heat shield is under that protective plastic-type cover and ive heard it could catch it on fire if the shield is removed

I'm not familiar with Subaru's or "that protective plastic-type cover" lol.

Can things catch fire if you remove it? I'm sure they could. Will they? It really depends on how you drive. If you're on the track every day getting up to redline all the time and running the piss out of it, then things may break and catch fire. In general driving, I doubt anything will catch fire.

What type of heat shield is it? Is it one of the ones that fully encase the exhaust pipe, or is it just a random piece of metal between the exhaust and things like the gas tank? If it's encased around the exhaust pipe, you could grab a gear clamp, pipe clamp, hose clamp, what ever you like to call it, and tighten that down over it and that should fix your rattle.

Most Subaru vehicles tend to have the heat shield that covers the entire exhaust. This is the case on my Impreza and many others. I can agree with the clamp method, usually works.
