GTX 1060. The GTX 1060 performs better in pretty much everything. The 480 technically has better DX12 support but DX12 is still in it's infancy(though it is now starting to take off) and from what we've seen, the 480 only smashes the 1060 in select titles, like DOOM with Vulkan. However, The Talos Principle is a Vulkan title in which the 1060 pulls ahead, though it doesn't have full Vulkan support.. In DX12 titles, like Hitman, the 480 is a decent bit better than the 1060, but Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is also a DX12 title, the 1060 smashes the 480. So, the 480 isn't necessarily the clear winner in DX12 or Vulkan, it just depends on the implementation. Just want to get that out of the way because DX12/Vulkan myths have been going around thanks to AMD fan boys. Although, the AMD GPUs have Asynchronous compute built in to the hardware, so raw power wise, the AMD stuff should be better in DX12, again, just down to the implementation.

So, for performance right now, GTX 1060 hands down. However, the 480 could potentially be better in a year or 2 if AMD can keep improving it's performance through drivers, which is what AMD typically try and do. However, keep in mind that with the 480, you have XFire support so if you have a compatible motherboard and PSU, you could add a 2nd 480 at any point for improved performance(if you don't have the budget to upgrade to a higher end GPU), whereas the 1060 has no SLI support whatsoever. You may be able to run 2x 1060's in MDA/LDA Explicit with DX12 titles, but only if they support multi-GPU set-ups like that, and even then, the performance could be terrible. Though, 2x1060s in AotS showed promising results.

i see dx12 being good since im going to be playing 2 games already supported by dx12. Also does the manufacturer that makes a aftermarket rx480 make a difference in preformance.

Miniscule differences typically. Just get whatever aftermarket card is within budget and looks nicest to you. Just make sure not to get a reference card, especially with the 480.

What Do You think of the PNY - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or the Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 Graphics Card? i honestly dont care about looks.
