I've been pondering this for the past few weeks or so. I think I'm in a pretty good place in my life. I have a full time job, I'm almost done with college, and I have a beautiful girlfriend who I'm ready to marry. But does that make me sussesful? I look at billionaire who didn't finish college or have a masters from MIT or Harvard. What makes them more successful than me? I've never one to back down from a challenge, so the constant hard work I put in doesn't seem like it's going anywhere.

What are your thoughts?

Being successfull can mean lot of things depending on the person ,it can mean being a millionaire, being a artist, painter, or what ever the person decides what successfull.
it can even be someone selling ice cream in the bajamas if they're truly happy doing it then you can call that success.
if you are happy then that is being succesfull
being happy is my definition of successfull

I'm "happy" but at my current rate it doesn't seem I will ever be out of the >$100,000/y bracket. Not sure if that's what I should be striving for? Or just be happy I have a good paying job

The key to being successful, to me, is to be patient, open-minded, and positive. If you are negative about your work, you will continue to do low quality work.

I wouldn't say im negative about my work, but as a graphic designer, my current job isn't challenging me creatively anymore.

It all depends on your version of success. Bill Gates, and people like him took a HUGE gamble. Look at everything he sacrificed to make the computer.

A guy I work for is a multi millionaire, and one thing I gather from him is that no matter where you financially are in life, you need to pinch pennys, and look at the big picture. This guy could go out and buy a brand new vehicle, but he buys used ones because the money - value ratio is better than buying new.

One thing he told me was to look at the big picture. What you are doing could be penny smart but dollar stupid. The best example I can give you on that is you can be like me, and buy a 20 year old vehicle, and have over 15k into it with repairs still going on, or be like him and buy a used but pretty new truck for 18k and have very little problems if any. You might be thinking that I am about 3k ahead right now. Not true at all. Not only is his truck more reliable than mine, but all the time my truck was in the shop, I couldn't work. 3k is 30 days at my current 10/hr rate. My truck was in the shop for way over a month.

To me, success is not having any debt you can't cover, and being financially stable enough to support you and your spouse / kids if you have them. Success is not living paycheck to paycheck.
