So guys im going to UNI for Graphic design , Ive thought for ages ive needed a MAC because thats all they have in UNI , But i can get a much cheaper / equal laptop so im not sure if i should get a MAC - I need cash for other things but im putting all my money into getting a MAC even though i already have enough for a laptop...

So do you think it would be ok to get a laptop? , Or would getting a MAC be easier?.

Can you swap files from Mac to PC (Lets say if i was working on something in UNI on a mac) and then transfer to PC (For example Photoshop files) , I dont see why not? , Getting a PC might make it a little more inconvient but means i save alot of money.

Thoughts?

In my honest opinion, Mac's are actually good, they're perfect for the students that enjoy watching video's editing and well browsing the internet...
i enjoyed my mac before it got stolen.

Well the difference is really all in the operating system / design. With Mac you will have a simpler OS. However if you're comfortable with Windows then Windows is fine. Mac is nice at Universities because they are small and sleek, so they are easy to carry around. And to answer your question, yes you can transfer most files from Mac to PC and vise versa. However you can't run .exe files on Mac and there are some you can run on Windows. However photoshop and everything will be fine to transfer.

Typically macs also have nicer displays, so if you're going into graphic design you might benefit there. Just make sure you are purchasing one with a nice display.

Either one will be fine.

yeah i know that , I use PCS all the time i was going to transfer to MAC as all unis have them , However if i could save like £200 - £300 then that would help so much.

Any ideas for where i can get a laptop cheap?

But i can get a much cheaper / equal laptop

PCs that have the same features as Macs (good build quality, display, battery, keyboard, etc.) aren't really cheaper.

Can you swap files from Mac to PC

Most of the files you use will be universal. You can't install programs written for Windows on OS X and vice-versa, but most programs have functional equivalents for both.

uIf you cannot decide, why dont you go with a dual boot or a Virtual Box, and run Windows on the Mac? Since you are a student, you will be able to get a copy of Windows 8.1 Pro from the Microsoft Store for around $70 USD,But you will need access to a Windows 7 or higher Pc in order to make the Installation media to do it as the Mac cannot run a .exe file.
