iyop45 wrote If you're going to be of on that tangent I would like to mention that your statement too is partially incorrect.

Yes, the universe isn't infinite in scale however, it's in fact expanding at faster than the speed of light. The rate of expansion has been derived from 'v = Hd' through red shifts in light, and so has been calculated to be around 74.3 2.1 kilometers per second per mega-parsec whereas the speed of light is only 3x10^8 ms-1. The reason for this is due to dark energy and you must understand that atoms in the universe only make about 5% of the universe, the rest is mainly dark matter.

There is a HUGE difference between these values and does explain how the 'observable' universe is so finite in comparable to the universe.

I have a slight urge to raise string theory into this equation as I believe it's the most founded understanding of what we would think is "outside" the universe. It's a concept that there an number of bubble like universes. But, the gaps in between such universes I would believe to be mainly dark matter however, don't take this literally; it's merely an expectation from what is inside the universe.

Actually, taking into account less than 1% of an atom is actually mass, less that 1% of the universe is mass.

And the laws of physics break down in various places throughout space. Let's face it, we as a race know jack shit about the boundaries of the universe.

Incorrect.

Space is not infinite.

Space can only be the age of the universe multiplied by the speed of light. And no faster because by the laws of physics, matter could not have been created further than the fastest constant (light) can be known to go.

But theoretically we can never see the edge of the universe because of the current size and its current expansion. We will not be able to beat the speed of light to the edge of the universe as nothing is faster.

The laws of physics are based on things close to us. There is so much things in space that our so called laws cant explain.

No, Atoms do in fact make up about 5% of the universe. The value you were referring to was that sub-atomic particles only build up less than 1% of mass. This is true but "atoms" only make up 5% of the universe. There is a distinct difference in what I said.

We don't know what's outside the observable universe as evidence no. However, the "break down of universal laws" as you stated is a big enough assumption as any. I don't nor does anyone else 'know' what is present outside the entire universe however, string theory does agree with a lot of experimental conclusions we have made. It doesn't explain what's outside the universe bubbles and I didn't give a definite answer to such, I based my thoughts on what we know currently.
