Just put your foot on the back tire. It wares out your shoes, but works.

If you feel confident enough to ride without them then go for it, just be careful on the roads, you can stop by sticking your foot in the back tire anyway. I had them off all the time i had a bmx, although all i can say from experience of having my head stitched up, ALWAYS wear a helmet

Well if it makes you cool to not be able to stop then you gotta go for it, its all about the swag.

If it being lighter is a serious factor.. you could always maybe work out and it will feel lighter without the risk of you not being able to stop.

I wouldn't do it, and this is coming from someone who is not very intelligent.
