I have done this a million times and have never had to port forward or anything, it is really simple. There will also be another method of using ethernet cables without having a 25-100 ft. cable running through your house toward the bottom.
Note: This only works with WIRED NETWORKS
1. Have an ethernet cable connect from your router to your xbox
2. Have an ehternet cable connected from your router to your computer
3. Start up your xbox
4. Bridge your connection (tutorial at the bottom)
5. Start up xlink kai
Windows 7 Or Wondows Vista Users:
1 - Right Click on Start Kai
2 - Go To Properties
3 - Compatibility
4 - select the compatibility mode as Windows XP SP2
5 - Run As Administrator .
Non Windows 7 or vista user:
Right click Start Kai and select run as administrator.
6. Go into your game and go into system link menu
7. Try to find a game or host one for your friends (must live close/have low ping to connect) (If someone with a JTag has the ping patch, they can connect to you, but you can't connect to them unless they live close/have low ping)
8. Enjoy!
Bridging your connection
Windows 7 or Vista
1. Click Start and open Control Panel
2. Click Network and Internet
3. Click Network and Sharing Center
4. Click Change Adapter Settings
5. Click the connection you are currently connected to one time
6. Hold CTRL and click Local Area Connection one time
7. Right click one of the selected connections and click Bridge Connection
Windows XP do the same thing, just remember the things the different network options might have different names.
My ethernet setup
I have these things called homeplugs and what they allow me to do is have a direct ethernet connection, except it connects wirelessly. I can still connect to xlink kai with them and everything. I have a little ethernet cord connected from my router to the homeplug and the homeplug is in my outlet. Then I have an ethernet cord connected from my xbox to my other homeplug and the homeplug is in my other outlet and the homeplugs connect to each other wirelessly. It works great and I recommend it if your xbox is far from your router. The only problem is I normally have to replace them once a year because they start to over heat really easy after a year, but most of the time I can play for hours without it over heating.
I hope this tutorial was helpful!
