How to Mod Fallout 3 (PC Type Mods)
Tutorial by: CBD

Description:
This tutorial will teach you how to mod Fallout 3 on your Jtagged/RGH'd Xbox 360 to play PC type Fallout 3 mods. This will enable you to use the GECK Program to edit and create any data for use with Fallout 3. This is great for those who enjoy Fallout 3 and have a JTAG/RGH for offline modding.

Tutorial:

Materials needed:

- Default.xex (TU3 Patched)

- Jtagged/RGH'd Xbox 360

- Fallout 3 ripped/installed to Xbox HDD/USB

- ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.BSA

- XMAEncode.EXE

- FO3 Archive Utility

- 7-Zip Archive Utility

- G.E.C.K. Program/PC Mod of your choice

Getting Started:

Step 1.
First you will need to Rip/Install your copy of Fallout 3 to your Xbox 360's HDD/USB.

Step 2.
Copy & Paste the Default.xex (TU3 Patched) into the Fallout 3 Root Folder.

Modding the Fallout.ini:
Step 1.
Open Fallout.ini from the Fallout 3 root Folder.

Step 2.
Search for SArchiveList, once found add "ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa" to the list before "Fallout - Textures.bsa".

Step 3.
Search for bInvalidateOlderFiles and change it from 0 to 1.

Step 4.
Find the [General] section of the Fallout3.ini and add this new line in: bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1 This will allow skin/face colors to work properly.

Step 5.
Save Fallout3.ini, then place ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa into your Fallout 3's Data folder.

Modding Files with G.E.C.K:
*REQUIRES FALLOUT 3 FOR PC INSTALLED*
The G.E.C.K. can be used to modify all kinds of files for Fallout 3. From Sounds to textures to quests, and much MUCH more!

Here is a great site with all sorts of helpful tutorials:

[size=18]Unpacking .BSA Files:
Some PC Mods will contain .BSA Files that the Xbox will not be able to run.
Here's a quick tutorial on how to Unpack those .BSA Files into Xbox usable Files.

FO3 Archive Utility Installation Tutorial:
*REQUIRES FALLOUT 3 FOR PC INSTALLED*
To install this utility, place the FO3Archive.jar file into a directory of your choice. To run the utility, create a program shortcut and specify "javaw -Xmx512m -jar FO3Archive.jar" as the program to run. Set the start directory to the directory where you extracted the jar file.

Step 1.
Download the FO3 Archive Utility.

Step 2.
Create the following directory: C:\Fallout3\FO3Archive\
Create the following directory: C:\Fallout3\FO3Archive\Out\

Step 3.
Extract the files from the FO3 Archive Utility into C:\Fallout3\FO3Archive\

Step 4.
Double click on the FO3Archive.lnk File. Then click File, Open and navigate to your data folder and select a BSA file (this might take a while to open)

Step 5:
Click Action, Extract All Files, Select the C:\Fallout3\Out\ folder and wait while the files are extracted.

Converting Texture Files:
Method 1.
The goal here is to convert .DDS (PC used) Files to .DDX (Xbox used) Files. At the moment there have been no official programs for .DDS to .DDX Conversion, however if you were to open the .DDS File in IDA Pro and select PPC (PowerPC) as the Processor Type, then copy and paste the Hex Values into a Hex Editor, then Paste write:
(First 8 Bytes of .DSX File Here)

to the beginning of the File. Then save it as a .DDX File and in theory work it should work.

For More Info. on this please go to:

(Delete the space between the [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and .com)

I may be making a Tutorial/program for this in the future.

Method 2.
You can make the game force load .DDS files by adding 'bUseDDX=0' to the general section of fallout.ini, however the draw back to this method is that ONLY .DDS files will load and not .DSX files so you have to replace all the .DSX Files from the game with the .DDS files from the PC version of the game. And even then some of the textures may not even load properly, saving and reloading seems to help but only temporarily.

Converting Sound Files:
The goal here is to convert normal sound files (.WAV, .MP3, .OGG, etc.) into .XMA (Xbox used) Files. This can be accomplished by first converting them to Wave (.WAV) Files then convert the Wave (.WAV) Files to xma files using xmaencode.EXE.

Step 1.
Extract Files from the xmaencode.RAR

Step 2.
Take your Wave (.WAV) File and drag and drop it on the xmaencode.EXE.

Step 3.
Your Wave (.WAV) File should now be a .XMA File.

Installing Modded Files onto Fallout 3:
Step 1.
Go into you Fallout 3 root folder, and go to the Data Folder.

Step 2.
Copy and Paste all of your modded files into the folder.

Step 3.
Go into you XeX Loader (XeXMenu) and load the Default.xex in your Fallout 3 Root Folder.

The fallowing files will not load on the Xbox 360:
* = Check above tutorials for more Info.
- .WAV, .MP3, .OGG, etc. Files*
- .DDS Files*
- .BSA Files*
- Some of Nexus's new items, quests, textures ect.
Known Failures: Anything that requires NVSE (New vegas script extender) or a modified menu (Final_master_xml.dat holds the menus, and pc menus are difficult to convert)

Creating DLC Files:
You can create a DLC File with the Modded Files for Fallout 3. This will make it easier for those who don't know much about modding so they can just inject it like any other DLC.

Step 1.
Open Le Fluffie. The Press File --> Package Creation.

Step 2.
Make Title ID: 425307D5

Step 3.
Right click on the window next to the Root Folder. Then press Add File and select the Modded Files you wish to include in your DLC. Once you Have them all in the Root Folder press Create Package.

Step 4.
Save DLC File to HDD Root:
Content/0000000000000000/425307D5/0000002
