"We're Ready," Microsoft Says About Xbox One-PS4 Cross-Play

4.6
Last month Microsoft announced its cross-platform initiative, that aims not only to link Xbox Live with PC but also "other console networks." Microsoft explained that this is an option being offered to developers, who would have to code it into the games themselves, with the "ok" of the "other console networks."

"In addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we're enabling developers to support cross-network play as well," Microsoft explained at the time. "This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks - including other console and PC networks."

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, ID@Xbox Europe boss Agostino Simonetta was asked if the technology for cross-play between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was in place, to which he responded: "Absolutely--we're ready. Rocket League is the first game--and it is a heavily network-orientated game."

"But yes, any title that wants to update their game to include cross-network play, any title that wants to launch soon and take advantage of that, we are ready," he continued. "As far as we're concerned - we've made the announcement and we're ready - whoever wants to get on board. It remains an open invitation to any network that wants to do the same."

"We can only say: we're ready. We've done our bit and we welcome anyone who wants to take part."

tell I'm very excited to see this. Ever since the xbox one and ps4 came out, ive always dreamed about cross-platform, being able to play together. But the only thing is, they're probably not gonna make that possible for call of dutys, which I play the most.

Yeah it just sound so cool and it will change gaming completely in a good way

I wonder after a couple of updates if this "crossplay" will allow me to put my ps4 account on my Xbox....

Daniel- If this does happen that would be the best thing they did, Both consoles multiplayer combining that is just class.

This doesn't mean you can add PS4 friends on the Xbone and vice-versa. It just means you can randomly get matched up with people from another console. It doesn't add anything other than a larger player-base.

I wish all games would be cross-platform. Hopefully more good games will be

ooh
Ethan- so this means i could wreck all those ps4 scrubs at my school on bo3 playing on my xbox one??

Yeah... Right. Sony wouldn't ever let CoD go. They're too heavily invested. Not to mention, if you can't read, it clearly states that developers must make it happen. No core changes will happen to BO3, obviously...

Networking isnt a core change it could happen with moderate effort from devs
