Rumor: Call of Duty 2016 to Feature Space Combat

4.4
With the past few Call of Duty games being set in the not-too-distant future, some franchise fans might be thinking or wishing that future games in the franchise — specifically this year’s iteration being developed by Infinity Ward — either return to the present day, or go back to the World War II era. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Noted industry insider shinboi602 has posted a few details on this year’s Call of Duty over on NeoGAF and he mentions how the game will be set in the very far future, will go the sci-fi route, and even have space battles!

Eggbok: Wasn’t Ghosts already sorta futuristic though? Not to the level of Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare but still there.

shinobi602: This makes Black Ops 3 feel like the stone age. Metaphorically of course.

El_Chino: Are we talking Battlefield 2142 style?

shinobi602: Very far future. Space combat. Full on sci-fi.

While we usually don’t believe or report on any rumors that pop up out of nowhere, shinobi does have a very decent track record when it comes to these things. Of note, he leaked that Black Ops 3 will feature wall-running, and robotic limbs and cybernetics which the Specialists used that all turned out to be spot-on. Not only that, but he confirmed that Black Ops 3 was coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 and that it was being handled by another studio (not Treyarch).

Of course, don’t forget that this is still a rumor until verified or debunked by Activision or Infinity Ward. But if this year’s Call of Duty game does feature space battles, then don’t be surprised, alright?

How do you feel about the franchise going even further into the future? Would space battles and going completely sci-fi give Infinity Ward’s iteration of Call of Duty its much-needed refresh or will it fare worse than Ghosts?

Daniel- Wow Call Of Duty has really gone downhill and started going downhill since MW2, Im really hoping that this new Call Of Duty is quite like Ghosts and nothing like the image above.

To be fair, that picture is of Ghosts, but of the campaign portion of it. It is that event in the story of why the technology isn't that advanced for a futuristic game. If space battle is a thing, I hope it stays in the campaign. I'm all for change, but that is a little much for me in a competitive setting.

havent bought cod since backops 1 and Was really hoping for a new call of duty modernware, still play MW2 to this day.

I don't think this will be the case. With the backlash that the community openly shared with the CoD devs, I doubt that we will see a Call of Duty that is THIS far into the future. There really is no need for it to jump that fast. It doesn't make sense. That will leave the game with no where to go in the later years.

Space... Guns? What the... actual fu*k that's just awful lol gonna be the #WorstCodEVER!! For those saying remastered? Nah just make a whole new cod but not futuristic, keep it real based on an actual story line like on waw where you storm normandy beeches and shit

This will be the final straw for me with Cod. This is an awful idea to say the least.

This would definitely be interesting but it means they are still making futuristic games if this is true which would be a disaster. Loads of people including myself want the classic call of duties back where its not futuristic. I'd love to see another WaW game.

Oh man. I can already sense the jimmies being rustled. People will time and time again, "I wont buy it(if they do ___)", but low and behold we keep buying the games.

Personally I hope this is true. But it wont because I think they want to keep the story going from Ghosts.
