H1Z1 Becomes Two Separate Games for Console Release

4.3
The zombie thriller H1Z1, popualr on Steam’s Early Access program has been in development for consoles for some time now. Today, some huge details were revealed by Daybreak Game Company about the future of the game on PC and consoles.

First off, the current version of H1Z1 available to PC users will be going away from the marketplace. One version of the game will officially launch on PC and consoles, while a separate, second version will head to Early Access.

King of the Kill represents the game’s multiplayer combat modes, and will launch for PC, Xbox One and Play Station 4 this summer. The game retails at $19.99, and microtransactions are already confirmed to exist offering tickets to access certain modes. H1Z1: King of the Kill will feature Battle Royale mode and other arena options.

H1Z1: Just Survive is the open-world aspect of the game, and will be available only via Early Access on Steam when the split occurs. The game will cost $19.99 and offer supply drops for additional costs.

Players who buy the current version available now on Steam for $19.99 before February 17 will receive both titles. Jens Andersen, the game’s creative director discussed the split:

“We have received feedback from our community and they’ve pointed out that these are really two different games, that they are very much stand-alone concepts that have two different audiences. There will be two separate development teams supporting H1Z1: Just Survive and H1Z1: King of the Kill, and both of these teams will really be able to tool up and focus on the needs of the players of each of those titles.”

And Laura Naviaux, chief publishing officer addressed how the game grew from an original free-to-play model:

“Let’s face it, we live in a democratized world where players and consumers have so much that they have to choose from and at their disposal. … We need to pick appropriate business models on a per-product basis, and what’s best for H1Z1 is to have a modest download fee with optional microtransactions.”
